My husband and I discovered Murphy’s Crocodile Inn when we were living in Somerset County, New Jersey. A little off the beaten track in Neshanic Station, New Jersey, we were immediately impressed with the relaxed atmosphere, good food and live music. Murphy’s Crocodile Inn draws you in from the moment you walk in the door. The decor is cozy with lots of dark wood and vintage Irish beer signs. Once you sit down in one of their plush and roomy booths, you are ready to eat, drink and be merry.
It’s not too hard to get merry at Murphy’s Crocodile Inn. They offer live entertainment several nights of the week, and if you are there on an off night, there is compact disc machine that holds the classics as well as current chartoppers. Something for everyone. The music is at a comfortable level, not too loud that prevents comfortable conversation.
I always start my meals at Murphy’s Crocodile Inn with a frosty glass of Killian’s Irish Red. My husband prefers Guinness. It seems almost wrong to order anything else here. There is also wine by the bottle or glass available, and an assortment of non alcoholic drinks on the menu like soda, lemonade or iced tea.
Service is always prompt and friendly. The wait staff clearly enjoys working in this comfortable atmosphere and it is reflected in the attention they give to their patrons. On one visit there with my daughters, the kind waitress circumvented what could have been a scene with my youngest daughter. She ordered the chicken fingers which they had just run out of for the night. The must have had a run on chicken fingers that day! The waitress immediately returned from the kitchen and gave my daughter several other options to choose from. She spoke to her in such a lighthearted manner and described the other menu items so well, that my daughter had no problem making another choice and all was well.
The food is delicious and satisfying. From the burgers to the seafood and pasta, I have yet to order a dish at Murphy’s Crocodile Inn that didn’t completely please me. An assortment of sandwiches are also on the menu. The steak sandwich is one of the best I have ever tasted. The portions are large and I usually have a delicious Murphy’s leftover lunch the next day!
There is no need to rush home when your meal is done, you can stay and play a few games of pool in the bar. The bar is at a comfortable distance from the restaurant so I have no qualms about taking my children there for lunch or dinner.
Another interesting aspect of the charm of Murphy’s Crocodile Inn is that it has been widely reported that it is haunted! Allegedly there have been witness who have seen the basement lights turn on and off by themselves. I have no plans to stray down to the basement anytime in the near future, so I don’t have anything to worry about! I can keep on enjoying Murphy’s Crocodile Inn with it’s good food, good drink and good music.
