I’ve been blessed with a baby sister that fer the last 50 years or so has been full of surprises She’s a mom, grandma, teacher, nurse (RN), wife, sister, cuzzin and more. This week she left fer that sand pile in the East where all the action is goin’ on. She leaves behind a hubby that still has to work as the county prosecutor Six children ages rangin’ from Twenty three to seven. Yes I said seven. If she’s lucky her tour will be over before the second to youngest graduates high school this June. She has three grandchildren that will need extra spoilin’ from her soon. One of her sons is the father of one of these grandchildren. He has already served a tour on the sand pile and came home with a Purple Heart pinned to his uniform. .
I know it’s been a long time ago when little sister enlisted in the Air Force Reserves. Her comment was I need to pay back some of the freedom that we are given. I need to help these GI’s that need medical help. Most of all I need to teach by example all the things Mom & Dad taught us by example. I think she will also be bringin’ a bit of positive attitude to a real difficult situation. I know how spiritually uplifting it kin be when the nurses are singin’ the old camp songs while their workin’ side by side. She almost crazy enough to throw in a couple of the old WWII songs… “Don’t sit under the old apple tree with anyone but me…”
We spend millions of our tax dollars trainin’ these soldiers. We spend millions of our tax dollars teachin’ them how to think, fight, heal the wounded, and return to battle with a smile and a will to win. President Truman was the first politician to override this training and bring McArther and the men home before they could complete their job. Again in Korea, again in Vietnam, again and again the politicians refuse to allow these men to do the job we paid with our hard earned tax dollars to train them to do. Someday our men that live through this conflict will come home. The dead will be mourned. Another monument will be built…. Not too long after that the politicians will again engage us in yet another conflict and the cycle will continue.
Soon we will have another major election in our country. Perhaps it’s time we took a good strong look at the folks we are voting for and the motives they have in their back pocket. Perhaps it’s time we think about another tea party in Boston… or perhaps it’ll be at the ballot box.
Y’all know we each have one vote. Y’all know that one vote doesn’t change much. Y’all know that only a handful of individuals whipped the British Army in the war fer Independence. Today we kin all join together and make our voices heard.
