Are you into wine tasting? Possibly looking for something cool or romantic to do? Visit one of the many North Carolina Wineries. According to NC Wine.org North Carolina ranks 10 in Grape Producing and 12th in Wine Producing in the country.
North Carolina has 55 wine producers in 31 counties, and the number of wineries in NC has doubled since 2002. There at least 350 privately owned vineyards covering 1,350 acres in the state.
Here are some of the fine wineries in North Carolina. I encourage you to visit one or several. Also the website listed above has a calendar of Wine Events you can check out.
Lumina Micro Winery
Located on Kerr Avenue in Wilmington North Carolina. They are a wholesale winery but also have wine tasting and a retail shop. They currently have a selection of 8 wines.
Benjamin Vineyards & Winery
Whitney Road in Graham North Carolina open Thursday through Sunday from noon till 5 pm. They are a family owned and operated winery. They have a wide selection of wines including seasonal wines.
Silver Coast Winery
Barbeque Road, Ocean Isle North Carolina. They have 40 acres of land and offer a place to have a picnic. They have a nice tasting room, and sell by the glass or the bottle. You can also order their wine, online.
Located in Rose Hill North Carolina. They claim to be the oldest and largest winery in the Southeast. They have an online store and gift baskets for sale.
Lake James Cellars Winery
Located in Glen Alpine North Carolina. They offer handcrafted wines from local fruit as well as from fruit found around the world. Also on the grounds is a home wine making center, and a nice antique store. They also sell wine making kits and equipment. You can also order from their website.
Secret Garden Winery
Located in Wayne County North Carolina. They offer tours and tasting on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9 till 6 and on Sundays from 1 till 6. You can go at other times or on other days by appointment.
Iron Gate Vineyards and Winery
Located in my former home town of Mebane North Carolina. They offer special gift wines, and you can order by the phone number on their site, or in person. They ship via UPS. They also have gift certificates. Their newest wine is called Dixie Dawn and is a sweet Red Wine.
Located on Endy Road in Albemarle North Carolina. They have a wedding and events facility in addition to a tasting room and gift shop. They are open Monday through Saturday from 10 am till 6 pm. They have a wine club as well.
They are located in Elon North Carolina. They offer wine tasting classes for $30, with the money being donated Elon’s Catholic Ministry. It’s a family owned and operated winery in business since the year 2000. You can tour their vineyard and visit their tasting room. They also accept groups if you call ahead.
Biltmore Estate Winery
Ashville North Carolina. Take in the whole Biltmore experience while enjoying their fine winery.
