The Company Store sells linens for bed and bath, along with other home accessories. Their catalogs are beautifully done, and their prices are mid-range to upper mid-range. Not too pricey, but pricey enough to get your attention. I recently placed an order for several hundred dollars worth of merchandise for my family. For that large of a sale, I expected quality items, speedy shipping, and excellent customer service. Only one of my three expectations were met, and that one was just by a margin. This is a review of my online ordering experience with The Company Store.
I saw a beautiful bed set in The Company Store catalog. The colors and look was incredible, and there was a sale promotion going on, so I decided to order it. The entire set cost me around $400, but I decided it was worth it, because I had been using a simple quilt as a bedspread for about 7 years! When I placed my order, I found that one of the most important pieces of the set was on backorder. But since it was only one piece, and I figured I would get it in a couple weeks, and the sale was so great, I decided to place my order anyway. In retrospect, I wish that I had not.
That particular backordered item ended up not being shipped to me for nearly two months. I received only one email, stating that it was backordered, and that if I wanted to keep the item on order, to not reply. So I didn’t. But after a month and a half, I sent a frustrated email to customer service. I had received every item except this one, but if I did not have this one particular item, I would have to send everything back. I explained this to customer service, along with my frustration with their slow shipping and lack of communication. The email that I received back was not at all helpful. I was only told that the item was processing, and that it would take at least two more weeks. Two more weeks? I could not believe it. And what’s more, no condolences or apologies of any kind were expressed to me over my frustrations with their service. I was very disappointed with their response, and felt that they did not care about my concerns with their service. They made no attempt to expedite shipping or make things right.
Finally, about two weeks later, I received the backordered item from The Company Store. It was shipped to me by the US postal service, which I found a little odd, and slow, of course. It was only at that point that I decided to open all the other packages and inspect my merchandise. One thing that totally repulsed me was that I found a big dirty fingerprint on the tag that says “only to be removed by consumer” attached to my comforter. That was gross and unappealing. I don’t think that anyone who pays $400 for a bed set wants to have a visual image of dirty hands all over their comforter before it is put in plastic. I could not believe that their quality control did not catch this. If it were not for all the time I had waited for the backordered item, I would have sent everything back just for the dirty fingerprint issue. That is just disgusting!
As far as the quality of the items, I was pleased. The sheets were soft and beautiful, although the fitted sheet ran too large in size, but I could work with that. The comforter and shams were truly gorgeous and seemed to be of the best quality. The items looked wonderful and the colors coordinated perfectly. They looked like something you would see in a bed and breakfast hotel. I was very satisfied.
All in all, I’m in a quandary about The Company Store. On one hand, their catalog is extraordinary, and their items are just as beautiful and of excellent quality. But their shipping time is incredibly slow, and their customer service is the worst. I scoured the web looking for reviews on The Company Store and found that I was not alone. Most all of the reviews were negative, and most of those negatives had to do with slow shipping time and poor customer service. There were very few complaints about the products that The Company Store sells. So if you see something you like in The Company Store catalog, and you are not in a rush to receive it, then go ahead and order. If you like being ignored or short-answered by customer service, then by all means go ahead and order. The Company Store has lovely products, but elevated prices, extremely slow shipping, and terrible customer service. If I have $400 to spend again, I will not give my money to them. I would rather take my chances on a locally owned Bed & Bath shop. You can visit The Company Store’s website at www.thecompanystore.com.
