Who doesn’t have zillions of photos and not enough frames or books to store them all? Snapshots are usually placed in scrapbooks, or left to the pages of a photo album, but why not display your favorite ones if they don’t take up much room? Hang the photos on wires and you’ll not only use the pictures rather than store them, but you’ll also create a unique decor look for most any room of the home.
It’s easy to string a wire just about anywhere – from the ceiling of the living room or a bedroom – simply by placing a “C” hook or eye hook, and stringing the wire from it. Stretch the wire all the way to the floor or stop at some point between the ceiling and the floor. The wire doesn’t have to be all that heavy of a gauge just to hold photos, but it should be stiff enough that it’s not easily bendable.
You’ll find metallic clips for hanging the photos on the wire at a hardware or home improvement store. The small clips generally have holes, in which to pass the wires through, making them perfect for holding all sorts of photos. Simply pass the wire through the holes and clamp the clips onto the wire. Or, use simple clothes pins – regular or mini – to hang the snapshots from the wire.
Hang one wire or lots of them, depending upon how many photos you want to display. A great look is to hang several wires, side-by-side, but cutting them to various lengths. You can also make a curtain-type arrangement by hanging the wires side by side, and all the same length, across a window.
If you want to make sure the wires stay steady, and don’t swing around, you can use a second hook and secure it to the floor. That way, you string the wire between the two hooks and the wire hangs straight and steady.
Hang Polaroids, ordinary snapshots, or even glue fanciful paper frames around some of the photos. You can create lots of different looks using the wires for your photos. Use small magnets, like butterflies, clouds, or even ladybugs, to decorate the wire further. The small magnets will cling to the wire and give your photo collage a unique and beautiful appearance.
You don’t necessarily have to leave the wire bare to hold the photos. Wrap the wire in ribbon, felt strips, or even cloth. After wrapping the wire, magnets won’t cling, but you can glue or clip on other novelties instead.
With the wired photo display, you don’t have to spend tons of money to buy frames, you don’t have to worry about dusting or breaking frames, and you’ll have a unique creation unlike anyone else’s. And with these collages, you can cram a lot of photos into a small space, where using frames would give a crowded and messy appearance. Get some wire, a few hooks, and your photo albums together. Choose many photos, or just a few, and get started on your fabulous collage. And be sure and string a couple of bare wires so they’ll be ready for your next set of snapshots!
