When discussing the subject of play, play is more than just running around and something only small children partake in. Play is something that anyone of all ages can involve themselves with because it has many values and benefits. Adults seem to make the common mistake of not participating in play due to the fact that “playing” sounds immature and childlike. In reality, play can be beneficial physically, emotionally/ mentally, socially, and spiritually and can be done in many ways.
Play benefits one physically because it always keeps you active and keeps blood pumping through your body all the time. Being active is one of the most important things in life because it keeps the body in shape and reduces the risk of high blood pressure and hypertension. High blood pressure is so common throughout society today and it could be easily solved if more adults participated in some sort of play. Also, doing activities that involve play can benefit muscular growth and strength. If play becomes natural in ones routine they will be fit and look good for their life. Being active and playing also controls weight if one was to play on a regular basis. Obesity is the largest problem in America right now. This is caused by bad eating and the lethargic attitude that children and adults have developed.
When it comes to mental/emotional health during play, it can do good to get out there and participate. Play has been known to decrease stress throughout ones life because it keeps them interested in their activity rather than worrying about what is causing the stress in their lives. Also, some sorts of games involve logic and thinking. Not only does play exercise your body but, it also exercises your mind and strengthens your memory and strategic ability. For example a Quarterback of a football game must know all the plays and where everyone is going to be. He must remember many plays and therefore that increases the mental capacity. Also, play is supposed to be fun so one could enjoy themselves by laughing and smiling. Smiling and happiness along with good exercise tend to make for a stronger and healthier immune system.
The social aspects of play could possibly be the greatest benefits of all. When one participates with others in a play activity, it makes them work together and create a bond. All of the major successful sports teams in the world have one thing in common, comradely. This means that they act towards each other like family members or friends would and therefore, help each other to reach a common goal, usually to win. When children/adults get involved in team play, they react and socialize with other people, which could cause friendships to form and strengthen throughout time. When other people depend on each other to succeed, they become very close and social benefits are allowed.
The spiritual benefits of play are not easy to comprehend and a lot of people give different meanings to what spiritual play is and the benefits. Spiritual health to me means have a positive outlook on life and the ability to live life to the fullest; these will both make the spirit healthy. To me, the spiritual benefits of play are very important to your personal well being. Taking part in play and have fun doing it means you are loving life and that your living it the best you can. To be spiritually healthy you must have a healthy lifestyle and the ability to play and be active is certain things that will strongly promote a healthy lifestyle. Sometimes, this is the most important area of health because it means you are living life happily and have a certain mindset that will allow you to be healthy.
Play is one of the most beneficial activities you can do in your life. It keeps you in shape and helps you stay healthy and can decrease your stress. Also, it helps to form relationships with new people and makes you feel better about yourself and the way you lead your life. Play is also a fun thing to do, no matter if it is a game or exercising with a friend. Play is not just for children; it is for everyone, no matter what age. If you do go out and play, it will be one of the best things you’ve ever done for yourself.
