I love using those mini raisin boxes to make crafts out of. They’re perfect to make simple magnetic frames for your fridge as well. Using some of the simple materials you probably have laying around the house makes this an easy and almost free recycled craft project the kids can make in no time.
The idea is a simple picture magnetic frame made out of an empty raisin box. You do need to eat those raisins for this one.
The first step is to use and Use an exacto knife to cut out a small rectangle out of the front to the raisin box. You can cut out a heart, circle, rectangle or whatever hope you want your photo to be seen through!
Now, have the kids Slip a small photo or photocopy of a photo in the back of the box and glue it down. They can photocopy this picture in black and white and use watered down acrylic paints to accent certain parts of the photos in colors.
You should be able to see the family photo out of the rectangle you cut out.
Now, have the kids wrap the ornament like a gift. They can use almost any material to do this. Felt, wrapping paper, brown paper bags, and clean computer paper all work well for this recycled craft project.
Use the exacto knife to make an X in the front of the magnetic frame where the rectangle cut out is.
Lightly apply some glue to the backs of the triangular pieces. Press them inside the box to revel the rectangle cut out again.
This covers any rough edges you may have made cutting the square.
Now, you can embellish this fridge magnet any way you choose.
You could tie a simple bow. Cut the ends off the make the bow even. Glue it to the top of the raisin box turned refrigerator magnet. Let the glue dry.
You could also let the kid’s craw on the dimple photo magnet frame with markers.
Paint pins also work well.
Puff paint is the perfect way to add some more dimensions. Try making circles with one color of puff paint on the borders of the frame. You can squeeze another color into the center of the circles. You will need to let this dry for at least 48 hours though cause the paint will be thick!
Now, once all of the paint has dried you can apply a simple round magnet or magnetic strip to the back of the frame. Simple use a little hot glue and you have an instant magnet. You can also recycle those boring magnets your banks or realtor send you. Glue the simple frame on top of the magnet and you have an almost completely free craft project!
This is one of those egret recycle craft projects that kids can really get creative with, best of all these make great gifts for family members! Teachers would also like this simple recycled craft project.
