Just recently I overheard someone say that Atheists, Catholics, Jews, Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons were going to hell because they are not Christian. How ignorant is that? Christianity, in organized religion began as Catholicism. Can you believe someone making a statement like that? Yet, this is the mentality of many people.
Have you ever been looked down upon for your religious preference, or lack of it? Have you ever been told you didn’t measure up to the people in your life because you don’t hold the same beliefs? Have you ever been called a heathen or been told you were just pain wrong for being an atheist?
One Thanksgiving my husband and I invited his family to our house. We sat down to eat, and all seemed to be fine. Later we had heard through other family members that his parents were shocked that we did not say grace before eating. It is fine to give thanks, but do we have to make a show of it? Does it mean that I am not thankful if I didn’t offer up a prayer before eating? Does anyone have the right to judge the sincerity of a person’s beliefs? No one has the right to judge another’s belief system.
You are no more wrong or right to be who you are; whether you are a Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, an Atheist or whatever religious organization you belong to. Yet, there is prejudice wherever you go, even within different denominations of the same faith.
There are those who believe if you are not falling down in the isles, jumping pews and speaking in tongues that you will bust hell wide open. And then there are some who believe if you don’t go to church you cannot believe in God. If you choose to believe none of it, you are condemned to be a heathen with no hope at all.
I believe religion is mans attempt to please the church. I don’t believe in religion, but I do believe in a merciful and loving God. I believe God loves everyone; even those who do not love him back.
No matter where we stand on the subject of religion we have no right to judge another human being for his or her beliefs. It is no more right or wrong to be an Atheist, as it is to be a Christian, or ___________fill in the blank of your belief system.
The beautiful thing about our country is that it was founded on religious freedom. People left their homeland because of religious intolerance; yet intolerant is what our society is becoming.
If you are here in the United States and you happen to be Muslim, many people look at you as a potential threat to our safety. I think we should try to learn about each other’s beliefs and cultures, since we all live here together; instead of trying to divide an conquer.
I wonder, if there is a God and he looks at the mass of people who are his creation, I wonder what he thinks of us. Instead of loving one another for who they are, we look at them as people who need to change.
Has anyone knocked on your door lately trying to convert you to his or her religion? Have they told you that their religion is the only truth? The truth is 100% of the people I have met of every faith believe their doctrine is the only truth.
