This Retro Trapper Keeper clock is a fun twist on the new everything retro is new again design scheme.
Ok, so I totally had the most awesome My Little Pony trapper keeper when I was a kid. Well, I may not have a real use for it now, but it certainly would be nearly impossible to make me part with it! So, take your vintage trapper keeper and turn it into a great wall clock so you can walk by and see your child hold memories every time you wan tot know what time it is!
This Retro Trapper Keeper clock is a fun accent piece that should fit into quite a few different rooms in any home. This clock would look great in a family room, the basement reck room, or even in a office room.
To Make a Clock Out of a Retro Trapper Keeper You Will Need:
One Retro Trapper Keeper
Wooden Numbers or Checker pieces with numbers written on them
Battery (Probably AA)
Now, if you are not lucky enough to have your own trapper keeper from when you were a kid you do have a few options. Amazingly enough they still make new trapper keepers, so that is always an option.
Also, I always come across great Retro Trapper Keepers in quite few places. I even find Retro Trapper Keeper at the flea market every summer. You can also find them on ebay. Each of these would be perfect to make into this simple clock.
Drill a small hole in the middle of the front of your Retro Trapper Keeper.
Keep the trapper keeper closed and drill straight out the back.
This will be for your clock kit, so you may want to take a look at that and see if there are any size conditions for this small hole. You don’t have to center the clock face; you could offset it for some visual interest.
Now, you are ready to install your clock kit on the Retro Trapper Keeper. Follow the direction on the clock kit box. Each kit will be slightly different. I find clock kits at the hardware store, the home improvement store, and almost every single arts and craft store out there. I recommend a clock kit that runs on a battery so that you do not have to have a cord hanging out of the back of the Retro Trapper Keeper, but that is complexly up to you.
Now, some clock kits will come with numbers, but you may find that they are not quite right for this retro project.
You can use these great wooden numbers sold at the arts and craft store for this if you want. You could also paint the numbers that come with the clock kit out in some spray paint to match your trapper keeper.
You could also take red rubber erasers and glue numbers on them. You can glue on some smaller wooden cutout numbers. Paint these in all the same color like white, red, or yellow to tie the Retro Trapper Keeper piece together.
Pop a battery into your clock kit and you can now hang your Retro Trapper Keeper clock on the wall. If you are hanging it in a family game room why not hang it where everyone will see it! This will be a really conversation starter when you have your old friends over.
Just remember, you can make this Retro Trapper Keeper clock with as many trapper keepers as you want! Grouped four together and add the clock piece.
