I love to bake– especially brownies. Even though I don’t have kids (yet), I make fresh baked goods for my husband to bring to work with him. He’s a police officer that works through dinner, so I want to make sure that he has some nice snacks with him.
The one thing that I hate about baking is cleaning the pans afterwards. Since there are only two of us living in the house, brownies and such last a long time. I have a problem with them going stale in the pan that I bake them in. I usually leave them in that pan because they go stale faster when I cut them and leave them out.
Enter Reynolds Fun Shapes Baking Cups and Cake Pans.
When I first opened the small, square box of these fun-shaped, foil cups, I had my doubts. They seemed so thin and flimsy. I thought that the batter would disfigure the cute heart and star shapes– especially thick, brownie batter. Regardless, I gave it a shot anyway.
The instructions on the box of brownies suggested that the pan they are baked in be greased before spreading the batter. To be honest, I completely forgot these instructions before adding the batter. I think that I would have had a harder time spreading the batter, though, if I did remember to spray the cups with non-stick baking spray.
The cups are indeed flimsy, and you must be careful when using thick batter. However, there is no problem with cake batter whatsoever. It is easy to reshape any cups that get disfigured, though. Once the cups are filled, you place them on a cookie sheet and bake them like you would cupcakes.
The batter cooks PERFECTLY in these cups. It was better than baking in a metal pan. Somehow, the final product stays more moist. Plus, there is no worry about the cake or brownies turning hard. The cups keep the freshness inside!
The cups are also very easy to remove from the brownie or cake: you just peel the foil away. This is an incredibly convenient product. Craig just tosses one in his lunch bag, and he is good to go. There is no need to wrap them because they are protected. Of course, if there is frosting on top, it’s a good idea to cover them if you aren’t going to eat it right away.
25 come in a pack, and it just seems to last forever. The tiny price tag ($1.59) is nothing to pay for Reynolds Fun Shapes Baking Cups. I’m sure that the fun shapes are really awesome, for kids, too.
I have found my new favorite baking accessory! I use Reynolds Fun Shapes Baking Cups at least once every two weeks. Of course, my hips aren’t too happy about that… But my husband sure is!
