The Salem Spotlight is a Summer Academic Program for Girls is for teenage girls 8th to 12th grade, created especially for them to spend their summers growing, developing their minds, talents, social relationships, and individuality. Salem Spotlight is a premier summer academic program sponsored by Salem Academy and College. Located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, young women are invited from around the world to come and join in the Salem Spotlight Summer Academic Program for Girls.
It is here where young girl will meet, bond, learn from each other, as well as their experiences, and hopefully form life long relationships. It is in this fun, nurturing, sage, and academically inspiring environment where young women push their limits intellectually, and socially.
The Salem Spotlight Summer Academic Program for Girls offers several academic tracks for them to choose from. The list is as follows: Writer’s Workshop, Fine Arts, Journalism, Spanish Conversation, Psychology, Performing Arts, Forensic Science, Environmental Studies, and Business and Leadership.
The Writer’s Workshop girls learn to creatively express themselves through their words, including learning the mechanics of writing. This particular track exposes the girls to the Introduction to Writing, Mechanics, Fiction, Poetry, and Journaling.
The Fine Arts track takes girls on a journey of exploring many different artistic media and techniques. Girls learn about painting, mixed media, drawing, and more. They have the opportunity to work with acrylic, pastels, charcoal, and more. For the girls who come into the Salem Spotlight Summer Academic Program For Girls, with a chosen media in mind, they sometimes choose to work continuously on their preferred media to improve. This track includes several field trips to museums and such.
The Journalism track trains the girls in writing skills, interviewing, reporting, and analytical thinking among the basics. It is in this class where girls take an article all the way from conception to printing with the help of their mentors. In some cases the girls even create a newspaper and switch roles until everyone, has actually done everything in terms of creating and running a newspaper.
The Spanish Conversation Track, the girls work on vocabulary and grammar, but also participate in immersion so that they will comfortable speaking, writing, and reading the language.
The Salem Spotlight Summer Academic Program For Girls also offers a Psychology Track is for those that are curious about the human mind, and social behavior. This very interesting track covers a great deal including the Introduction to Psychology, along with central themes such as learning, perception, and sensation. The classes also cover Social and Abnormal Psychology, Research and Testing.
For the Actors, the Performing Arts Track covers Acting, Improv Comedy and Drama, and Dramatic Acting. Girls have an opportunity to find their niche area on the stage creatively, critically, and independently.
The Forensic Science Track of the Salem Spotlight Summer Academic Program for Girls is for the girls that love CSI. This is one of the more popular Tracks, and girls are exposed to an introduction course in crime scene investigating. Not only do they learn laboratory skills, they get to visit a forensic crime lab, and throughout camp create a mock crime scene, which is solved through their forensic skills.
The Environmental Track is a most appropriate track for this time in the world. Girls are introduced to the study of the interactions of the environment with chemical, physical, and biological components. The girls are exposed to a lot of information since this field also involves economics, ethics, and social science. There is special focus on global warming in this track, and at such an appropriate time.
The Business track introduces girl to economics and the basics of business by creating their own company, and learning what it takes to run a successful business. In the Leadership track, girls have the opportunity to find out what it takes for them to be a leader in terms of vision, responsibility, community, socially, and politically.
