Sand Inspired Beach Wedding Invitation

by sumonova

Beach weddings are a fabulous opportunity to try something a little fresh and out of the ordinary for your wedding guests. Sand Inspired Beach Wedding invitations are the perfect opportunity to incorporate your beach wedding theme, show your personality, and even save a little money making them yourself.

Here is a Sand Inspired Beach wedding invitation project that is beautiful, classy, and easy to do. If you are having a large wedding with quite a few guests this spring or summer I highly recommend asking some of your bridesmaids and even the grooms men to help make these wonderfully unique Sand Inspired Beach wedding invitations.

For this Sand Inspired Beach wedding project you will need:

Heavy grade watercolor pre made blank cards and envelopes

Watercolor paint or acrylic paint in sand color

Water

Paint Brushes

Sharp Scissor or Exacto Knife

Tan color Pencils

Gum water color medium

Sand Water color medium

Mini flat sea shells (optional)

This is an easy Sand Inspired Beach wedding invitation project if you break it down into a number of different steps and don’t let them overwhelm you.

The first step is to decide what you want the front of your beach wedding invitation to say. I recommend “You’re Invited.” You can really write almost anything you want though!

Next, you need to deiced on a font. I recommend typing out your words in a bunch of different fonts on your computer. Print them out at different sizes and see what will work best for your beach wedding invitations.

Once you have found the font you want to use you will want to lay your Sand Inspired Beach wedding words out on some regular drawing paper, trace them and cut them out.

Now you are ready to lay your chosen wedding invitation words out on your heavy water color wedding invitation paper. Trace them lightly with tan or fawn pencil and then cut them out. This will help the outlines of your words blend in with the sand you are about to paint.

Now, take your gum water color medium and paint in the letters. Do this neatly and carefully. This will keep any color from getting on your words. After you paint the sand you can rub away the gum medium to reveal crisp and professional looking words on your wedding invitation.

Once your wedding invitations words are painted in with the gum medium and it has dried you are ready to start painting on your sand.

I like to take a paper plate and lay out a palette of two sand paint colors from my watercolor paints.

Before I paint my sand I always practice a little on a piece of scrap watercolor paper. This way I don’t waste a lot of my pre made water color cards and envelopes trying to get the look I want.

Now, pour some of your sand water color medium into the san colored water color paints.

Dip a large sized water color brush into the sand color paint. Paint the front of the wedding invitation, working back and forth in strokes. You can paint over those “You’re Invited” words as well.

These watercolor mediums can be found right next to the watercolor paints. Typically a bottle will cost you about $6, give or take a little depending on what brand you are buying.

Allow your Sand Inspired Beach wedding invitations to dry thoroughly then you are ready to remove the gum medium. Simply wash your hands thoroughly. Then take your fingers and drub off the gummy medium. Do not rub off your sand water color paints.

For a little added extra detail you could also use a gold or silver paint pen to outline the edges of the “You’re Invited” words. Super fine glitter would also look beautiful on these invitations as well.

In the card section of the art supply store you should also easily be able to find watercolor paper cards and envelopes. I often see these plain or with already colored edges. Choose the envelopes that work best with your Sand Inspired Beach wedding tulip invitations. I have seen these watercolor card envelopes at Michaels Arts and Crafts Store as well.

You can have all of your beach wedding information printed on the inside of the card!

For a three dimensional look you could also glue some small and flat sand dollars or sea shells onto the front of the beach wedding invitation.
