For those in need of financial workshops and estate planning, classes are offered at several locations throughout Orange County. The classes titled “its Your Money,” cover topics such as financial planning, wealth preservation, and long term care insurance, taxes and more. All classes are free and are held at the following locations. The Mission Viejo Senior Center holds classes on Mondays between 1:00Pm and 2:30PM. The Newport Beach Library offers classes on Tuesdays from 10:00AM to 11:30AM.
The Laguna Hills Senior Center holds classes on Tuesdays from 2:30PM to 4:00PM. The Huntington Beach classes are held on Wednesdays from 1:00PM to 2:30PM at the Adult Day Services of Orange County Building in the upstairs conference room. The address is 9451 Indianapolis. The Fullerton Senior Center holds classes on Thursdays from 2:00PM to 3:30PM. Classes are held at the Laguna Beach Assistance League on Fridays from 10:00AM to 11:30AM. The Laguna Niguel Senior Center holds classes on Fridays from 1:00PM to 2:30PM. Leisure World at Seal Beach actually offers a 4 to 10 week program in the Clubhouse.
The Huntington Beach Senior Center offers computer classes to senior citizens. You will want to contact them direct regarding availability. Currently they are booked out from one to three months. They also offer tap dancing, country much and keyboard lessons, western line dancing, country-western dancing, and more.
In the city of Cerritos Senior Center, seniors will find a new state of the art fitness wing. Included in the wing are weight-training equipment, cardiovascular equipment, and lockers rooms. There is also a conference room, which will be available for health screenings.
The seniors of South Orange County have set up their own network titled South Orange County Seniors. This network provides information and activities to the seniors that include nutrition counseling, tax assistance, wellness programs, support groups, financial aid information, Medicare counseling, legal aid counseling, preventative health screening, daily senior group luncheons, adult education classes, elder care nurse appointments, and fall prevention.
The programs are offered at various times throughout the year but are offered to each and every senior center which include locations in Rancho Santa Margarita, Corona Del Mar, San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, Laguna Niguel, Lake Forest, Mission Viejo, Laguna Beach, Laguna Hills, and Dana Point.
This is an excellent resource for seniors. The South Orange County Seniors even have annual fundraisers, which include The Captain’s Ball, which for 2007 will be held March 10th at The Ritz Carlton. The seniors also have a Senior Prom, which is the event of the year and is held annually. For 2007 it will be November 4th at the Irvine Marriott. This particular event is sponsored by Cox Communications and normally has celebrity guest as the Masters of Ceremonies. There is an annual charity golf tournament, which for 2007 will be held June 18th.
Other activities include the annual Founder’s Tea held on August 9th, 2007, which is to recognize the board of directors, and to bring everyone up to date on current accomplishments as well as to outlines future goals. And of course where would the community be without volunteers. There is the annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon normally held April of every year.
