This simple Styrofoam Heart Wreath For Valentine’s Day craft project is a great for children as young as 4 years old to teenagers. Simple heart shapes made of Styrofoam and ribbon makes this a very affordable Valentine’s Day craft for large groups of kids.
To Make a Simple Styrofoam Heart Wreath For Valentine’s Day you Will Need:
Sheet of 1 inch thick Styrofoam
White, pink, or red gross grain ribbon (1 inch thick)
Thin red ribbon (1/4 inch wide)
Toothpick or marker
Plastic knife (or real knife)
The first steps to trace out your Valentine’s Day heart shape on the Styrofoam. The kids can do this with a magic marker or even a toothpick. Encourage them to go ahead a dry to make their Valentine’s Day heart at least 5 to 6 inches tall. This way it can be seen wherever you’re deiced to hang it.
Now, using a plastic knife has the kids cut out their Valentine’s Day heart. Styrofoam is so easy to cut even a plastic knife will work its way through it with no problem. Older kids could use a real knife if you want them to.
Do not worry about any rough edges because the ribbon will cover it up.
Now, you are going to need long pieces of Valentine’s Day ribbon. I recommend at least 10 feet. You can cut off the extra this way.
Now, start at the base of the Valentine’s Day heart craft project. Hold your ribbon end to the bottom of the heart. Push a straight pin in to hold it in place.
Now, start wrapping the white, pink, or red gross grain ribbon around the heart. You want to work at an angle. You also want to cover any of the Styrofoam so it is not visible.
Once you reach the end on the Valentine’s Day heart use a straight pin to again attach the ribbon to the Styrofoam. Cut off any extra white, pink, or red ribbon with the scissor. Now, pull out the pin, tuck the enough end of the ribbon under a replace the straight pen.
Now, starting at the top and place the end of your accent ribbon on the top. Push a straight pin in to hold it in place.
Start wrapping the thin accent ribbon around the Valentine’s Day heart wreath. You want to space it out so the white, pink, or red can show through.
When you reach the bottom end of the Valentine’s Day heart use a straight pin to attach it the end. Cut off any extra accent ribbon with the scissors.
Now, take a 12 inch piece of your red ribbon. Push a straight pin straight though the middle.
Now, tie a large bow with this ribbon. The bow should be on top of the needle. Cut any extra ribbon of the ends of the bow.
Press this red bow into the top of your Valentine’s Day heart wreath.
