To Make This Valentine’s Day Heart Tablecloth You Will Need:
Unprimed Canvas or Fabric Tablecloth
Red, black, white, purple, and pink fabric paint
Paint Brushes (Small artist brushes)
Sponges (the flat kind with no scrubby side)
The first step is to decide how big you want your Valentine’s Day Heart tablecloth to be. Once you do this you will know how much canvas material you will need. In place of the canvas you could also use a simple store bought fabric table clothe. You can find them in a variety of colors. Red, purple, black, or white will work well for this.
The first step is to have the kids cut out heart shapes out of the sponges. They can draw the Valentine’s Day Hearts on with a marker. Let them cut them out with scissors.
Encourage the kids to make all sizes of hearts.
Squirt some of your other colored fabric paints out on plastic or foam paint. The kids can dip their sponge Valentine’s Day heart shapes into the paints lightly then press them onto the fabric tablecloth. Be sure to mix up the colors and get some variety. Pastel colors look great.
Now, have the kids choose the spots on the table clothe to stamp their Valentine’s Day Hearts. They need to press their heart stamps onto the tablecloth and hold it there with some force for a couple of seconds. Make sure they are working on a stable and flat work surface.
Repeats this Valentine’s Day Heart stamping process randomly over the entire tablecloth surface. You are going to add some other Valentine’s Day details, so be sure to leave space between the kid’s heart prints.
Once you have stamped enough colored heart prints have the kids wash their hands off.
Now, let the kids use puff paint to add details to the simple table clothe.
They can makes swirls, curly cues, polka dots, and more in between al of the hearts. They can also write words on the tablecloth.
Let this paint dry completely.
You can sew on a border in accent fabric to finish off the table if you want. If not, then you just need to simply hem the edge of your canvas fabric.
Always wash your fabric Valentine’s Day heart tablecloth before you start to paint with fabric paint. It is necessary to help the paint adhere to the tablecloth. It will also allow the fabric to go ahead and shrink if it wants to!
You can find great glittery puff paint pens to add some sparkle to the table clothe as well for Valentine’s Day.
