If you have read any of my earlier articles, then you know that I am pretty sentimental. Maybe that’s why I like anything that makes me nostalgic for merchandise related to a kinder, gentler time.
A television show I never missed as a kid on Saturday mornings was The Roy Rogers Show, starring singing cowboy Roy Rogers, his wife Dale Evans, a host of sidekicks and, of course, the amazing horse Trigger.
The Roy Rogers Show was on for 13 years, always with a moral to learn in each episode, always with good conquering evil. In comparison with the goofy way adults are portrayed on kiddie shows nowadays, Roy Rogers’ image was that of a decent,
courageous, highly-principled grownup who made you feel that everything would be just fine.
If you are a serious collector of Roy Rogers memorabilia, here are some items you mat find interesting:
Roy Rogers and Trigger the Horse Canvas, 8 x 10
Those of us who remember The Roy Rogers Show know that one of things we liked best was Roy’s trusty palomino Trigger, who could do tricks and was always there in time to get Roy out of a fix.
The sepia-toned Roy Rogers and Trigger the Horse Canvas is 8″ x 12″ and ready to be hung in a place of honor. I suggest getting it framed in order to keep it in top condition.
Roy Rogers and Dale Evans Lunch Box Tin Tote
Boy, does this bring back memories!
What you had on your lunch box was sort of a status symbol way back when. Since Roy Rogers was pretty popular then, it was really cool to be seen with a lunchbox featuring anything related to him and his show.
This 7.25″ x 5.5″ x 3″ Roy Rogers and Dale Evans Lunch Box Tin Tote is reminiscent of those days and is bargain-basement- priced for a quality collectible.
Roy Rogers Vintage Tin Sign: Happy Trails
The detailed, high quality 13.6″ x 19.5″ Roy Rogers Vintage Tin Sign has the vintage appearance sought after by most collectors. It features a likeness of Roy an Dale and underneath them is the title of their show’s theme song, “Happy Trails To You”.
Roy Rogers Life-Size Standup
Standing at 6′. 2″ tall is the life-size standup figure of Roy Rogers, with his guns drawn to deal with the latest bad guy. (Ever notice that Roy never actually killed anybody? Man, have times changed!)
As a memorabilia collector, I think standups are super items, but make certain you have the proper space set aside for them, to keep them in excellent shape.
Dale Evans Life-Size Standup
Come on, you can’t have Roy without his mate!
The life-size standup of Dale Evans stands at 5′ 11″ tall, wears a western-style hat and is outfitted in a charming cowgirl dress that’s white and shimmering gold.
Roy Rogers Cookie Jar Chuckwagon
This is such a superb Limited Edition collector’s item. The 11.5″ x 6″ x 9″ Roy Rogers Cookie Jar Chuckwagon, made out of glossy ceramic, looks like the food wagon cowboys take out on the trail.
If you collect Limited Edition cookie jars of this sort, set aside a special shelf or cabinet to hold it, where it won’t easily break or fall.
Alas, Those Days Are Gone!
I know. Times have changed and I’ve resigned myself to that fact. It’s still nice, though, to have something to remind me that there was a day when there were actually positive role models for kids to look up to.
