Soothe the Symptoms of Colic

Numerous people have heard of colic, but very few people actually know what it is. That is, of course, until they have experienced it with their children. Colic is a condition that babies experience. Colic is where a baby literally screams and cries for hours on end. Colic seems to be related to a stomachache as often the stomach seems swollen, and it usually results immediately following a feeding. The good news is that colic usually goes away by the time the child is four months old. The bad news is that you have to find a way to soothe the symptoms of colic until then. This can be a very challenging task!

Back to more good news, it IS possible to soothe the symptoms of colic in babies. You must remember that the most important aspect of soothing the symptoms of colic is to soothe the baby. One of the ways that you can soothe and comfort the baby is to swaddle the baby in a warm and snug blanket. There are other ways to soothe the colic baby as well. These ways include walking, rocking, and singing to the baby. The colic baby may also be comforted by various sounds, such as water, the clothes dryer, and riding in a vehicle.

One of the ways to soothe the symptoms of colic has been found that if you lay your baby on a blanket that has been slightly warmed by a clothes dryer. If you choose to use this method, you should use extreme caution. There is a possibility that the blanket may become too warm, and could burn the delicate skin of the baby. If you choose to use warmth to soothe the symptoms of colic, it may be better to give the baby a warm sponge bath and use lavender baby wash.

If you breastfeed your baby, there are many things that you should avoided ingesting to soothe the symptoms of colic. These things include milk products, caffeine, beans, and other foods and beverages that may result in producing gas-like activity in the body. Though you are the one actually ingesting it, traces of these items can be found in breast milk and are transferred to your child’s digestive system.

If your baby drinks formula, you may want to consider trying formula that is low as far as allergens are concerned. You may even want to consider a formula for babies that have a low tolerance for milk. Changing the formula that a baby drinks may help to soothe the symptoms of colic; however, you should consult the pediatrician prior to performing this step.

It is important that you try everything that you can to soothe the symptoms of colic in a baby. Their health and comfort should be top priority. It is important to understand that this is a very common condition and nearly all babies experience it at one time or

another. Do not be afraid to ask other people for help and advice – especially fellow parents. This can be a very challenging time, but if you have the proper support system in place, you can overcome it with success.
