This is a fun and easy spring craft for children to make. This cute butterfly clip is the perfect addition to a child’s room to give it a little spring colour and mood. To make this spring craft you will need a few inexpensive supplies.
To make this spring craft butterfly clip you will need the following materials: paper coffee filter, black chenille stem, paint brush, water, water colour paints, fresh wooden clothespin, two wiggle eyes, wire cutters, glue, needle nose pliers.
After organising all of the necessary materials to create this butterfly clip spring craft let the kids get to work. It is advisable to use some adult supervision while children are working on this spring craft project.
The first step is to cut a four inch piece of black chenille stem. You will need one four inch piece of black chenille stem for each butterfly clip made. After cutting the black chenille stem set it aside and take out a paper coffee filter, paintbrush, water and water colour paints. Then paint the coffee filter in pretty spring colours. This will transform the coffee filter into the wings for your butterfly clip spring craft. After painting the coffee filter set it aside to dry completely.
When the painted coffee filter is dry take it again and fold half inch pleats in it like an accordion. After creating all of the butterfly wing pleats take the painted coffee filter and slip it into the open side of the wooden clothespin.
Now its time to create the antennas of your butterfly clip spring craft. For this step you will need the four inch piece of black chenille stem you cut earlier. Firstly fold the black chenille stem in half. Next pull the two ends apart slightly so they are separate. Then take the top quarter of an inch of one side and fold it down. After that take the same side of the black chenille and fold it over one more time. After one side is done move to the other side of the black chenille stem and do the same thing. Your butterfly clip spring craft will now have its antennas. When you are happy with your antennas slide them into the opening of the wooden clothespin.
After inserting the antennas of your butterfly turn your attention to the wings. At this point you will want to spread the wings out to complete the butterfly’s wings. The final step of the children’s spring craft project is to give the butterfly eyes. Simply take a little glue and attach two wiggle eyes to the clothespin.
When the glue has dried this butterfly clip spring craft can be used to bring a touch of spring to your child’s room. You can attach the butterfly to curtains, pictures and shade or fan pulls.
To give this butterfly clip spring craft even more springtime colour use acrylic paints to paint the wooden clothespin. Some good colour choice might be pink, light green, bright yellow or sky blue. If you decide to paint the wooden clothespin of this children’s spring craft do it first so that it is dry in time for adding the other parts of the butterfly.
