St. Patrick’s Day in Hermosa Beach California is more than a parade, it is a two day festival. This year the parade is on the actual day, March 17th and the festival continues all the way through the 18th with vendors selling Irish good and crafts, the perfect opportunity to buy an unusual Mother’s Day or Father’s Day gift. There will be a food court, a kiddy carnival and plenty of Irish music and step dancing.

With a name like Dublin, you know there is going to be one whopper of a festival. It is a two day celebrations of everything Irish, with a little bit of California thrown in for good measure. The festival starts off with the Green and White Gala the Friday Evening before St. Patrick’s Day is an annual event honoring visitors from Dublin’s sister city, Bray Ireland. Saturday morning, before the parade you can get your energy up and going by attending the community pancake breakfast. The parade starts at 9:30, so get up early for the breakfast. You do not want to miss anything.
One of the biggest events on Sunday is the 5K run/walk. If you think you have the energy, you are more than welcome to sign up. There will be prizes and even if you don’t win, you walk away with an event tee shirt and an all round good feeling.
What could be more festive than walking around in the beautiful California sunshine, going from booth to booth and admiring the work of some of the finest crafts persons and artisans on the West Coast. And while you’re at it snacking out on such festival foods as funnel cakes, corn on the cob, hot dogs, hamburgers and fish and chips. There is enough food here to feed an army and then some.
There will be Irish entertainment going on all day. Stop by the stages for some great music and dance. There will be tables around so you can sit and enjoy your snack. And don’t worry about the little ones. They will be more than happy to hang around with you while you do your shopping, as long as you promise to bring them to the carnival for all the rides afterwards.

San Diego is not to be left out when it comes to St. Patrick’s Day festivals, far from it. They start off the festivities the night before on March 16, 2007 with the annual Friendly Sons’ Blacktie Dinner. Step off for the parade will be March 17, 2007 – 11:00 am
Parade begins at Juniper Street and 6th Avenue. There will be judging and trophies awarded, so be sure to come out and root for your favorites. Then after the parade, Balboa Park will be turned into a little bit of Ireland with Kid’s Zone Games and Rides, Musician Showcase Stage, Traditional Irish Dancers, a recreation of a Celtic Village and everyone’s favorite resting spot, the Beer Garden.
