Stress management in the workplace is a technique most of us will need to learn if we want to have long-term career success. Some careers are more stressful than others and some companies and managers you work for might provide you with more stress than you’d like. Laugh. Humor is a terrific stress-reducer and has been clinically proven to be effective in combating the worst of stress. Take a few minutes to join a coffee pot conversation, grab lunch with a colleague, or share an appropriate and “clean” joke. Make a few quality friends, and the people at work will start to feel like a second family.
Personalize your area. Make your work environment comfortable and inviting by bringing in a few items that reflect something about you. Display photos of your family or friends; display quotes you love; or place trophies and awards on a bookshelf.
Play with toys. Invest in a stress-reliever toy that can help you chill out. Look for a slinky or bendable object that you can twist and pull to your heart’s desire.
