The season premiere of NBC’s “The Apprentice” included a new and surprising condition. Each week, the winning team will be allowed to stay in a luxurious home while the losing team lives outside in what Donald Trump calls “Tent City”. There is no plumbing system or working electricity. The contestants sleep in tents and shower while covered with a small curtain. It is an unpleasant way to live at best. Donald Trump and NBC are clearly more than able to provide suitable living conditions for the contestants on The Apprentice.
Donald Trump’s new rule for the losing contestants to live in tents may be a little extreme. It may even be understandable to have the losing contestants live in a not-so-luxurious home as opposed to the winning team. A week in public housing or at a cheap motel could be a more fitting consequence for the losing team on The Apprentice. This new “Tent City’ rule seems to be unnecessary from the start.
Although living in tents is not the most sought after goal, there is a rare opportunity at stake. There are not many people who get the chance to work for famous and wealthy businessmen like Donald Trump. Tent city may not be so bad when thinking about the big picture. If the contestants on The Apprentice really want to work for Donald Trump, they will rough it out. They have to be willing to do what is necessary to withstand their chance to become the next Apprentice.
Winning is the game of life. Many reality television shows require contestants to compete until one winner makes it to the end. The 6th season of The Apprentice represents many circumstances in a realistic manner. Tent city represents real life in a sense. If contestants do not succeed in their tasks, they will not be able to reap the rewards given by Donald Trump. In life, if one does not succeed, he or she is left out in the cold.
This reality is represented by the many homeless individuals and people who receive government assistance and are able to work. They refuse to work hard so they end up living in paper boxes under city bridges and on sidewalks. Those who do not live on the street live in unsanitary and low quality housing. The contestants on The Apprentice may be able to get through their Tent City experience by applying the situation to real life. If one does not want to live outside in a tent, he or she must do what is necessary to make sure that they are able to live in a house with a roof, heat, working electricity and running water.
To succeed in life, one must work hard to prevent themselves from having to live outside. No one may ever know what Donald Trump’s intentions were for placing the losing “Apprentice” contestants outside in tents. However, his decision represents a good truth that individuals can take a look at where they want to be and determine what they are going to do to get there. It is not easy to maintain a good home to live in. Many winners succeed because they worked diligently at obtaining a goal.
A lot of losers fail because they give up or are unwilling to do what is necessary for themselves to meet a specific objective. Tent City may be a brutal environment to live in. The Apprentice exhibits the reality that one must work hard to receive the things that he or she wants in life.
