The Fairness Doctrine was an interesting concept that fell by the wayside, but the Left, never failing to beat a dead horse, is at it again. Since they cannot compete in the market of ideas, it seems their answer is to limit the ideas as a way to eliminate the competition, ie Conservatives.
“The Fairness Doctrine was a regulation of the United States’ Federal Communications Commission which required broadcast licensees to present controversial issues of public importance, and to present such issues in what was deemed an honest, equal and balanced manner.” (Wikipedia) In 1987 the FCC repealed the doctrine because it came under constant scrutiny from the courts. As written, the doctrine was deemed untenable to withstand court challenges, and the evolving talk-radio trend further rendered it useless.
“In August 1987, the Commission abolished the doctrine by a 4-0 vote, in its Syracuse Peace Council decision. The FCC insisted the doctrine had grown to inhibit rather than enhance debate and suggested that, due to the many media voices in the marketplace at the time, the doctrine was perceived to be unconstitutional.” (Wikipedia) And now the Left is squealing again. Do these people ever stop complaining?
Rush Limbaugh scares the Hell out of the Left. They have tried every trick in the book to marginalize him and his opinion, but they just can’t stop the truth, try as they might. They came up with Air America, and that bombed. Why?
Air America was broadcast over the public airwaves just like Rush, Hannity and the others. The Conservative talk radio world is rockin’ and rollin’ while Air America is so much hot air. What is that about? Do Libs not listen to radio? No, that’s not it. Must be something else. More than likely, it is what it is – that people in general are not interested in Liberal thought (except for Liberals), therefore Air America could not sell the air time to make it a viable business venture, and it sunk like a rock in a pond. If peeps wanted to hear, they would listen, thus Air America would have sold air time, thus would have been successful. But clearly that is not the case. The proof’s in the pudding.
That’s what happens in the free market system? Have a good product, a good service or a good message (meaning one people WANT to hear), and you will have a commercial success. Offer something other than what peeps want, and you go outta business. It’s so simple a concept you would think those erudite and far more eloquent Libs could grasp this, but it seems to be eluding them. Why?
It doesn’t elude them, it pisses ’em off. They cannot crack their way through to legitimacy if forced to compete. Hence, they have to once again try to find a way to marginalize, often through trying to criminalize, Conservative thought. I guess the Left has completely forgotten about NPR and PBS. These are publicly funded (through taxes) programs. Have you ever listened to NPR or watched PBS? If these folks leaned anymore to the Left they wouldn’t even know how to make a right turn in traffic. But that’s not enough for Liberals. Even having their own publicly funded venue they cannot seem to get their message out, or so they think.
The reality is that their message is getting out quite well, but the Left is discovering that most peeps don’t like their message. So instead of accepting the reality of the situation they try to bring the message in a different way. Are they really that self-deluded, or is the fact that the Left knows their message is not being well received thus they are trying to quiet the opposition because the public rejected their message? Considering my propensity for the rhetorical question, I think the answer is evident.
And if you come up with a better mousetrap peeps will flock to buy your new wonder. But since the evidence is clearly that your message is turning people off, you’d think you super smart Libs would make some changes accordingly, but no, instead you’ll continue to try to shoot the messenger. Just like a Lib not to see the forest for the trees.
The Left will never stop trying this new tactic of trying to criminalize Conservative thought because they cannot defeat the ideas, so shutting up the Right is their way to handle the problem. And that’s really interesting because it’s the Lefties in the US that are always squealin’ about someone trying to infringe on their (the Lefts) First Amendment rights. Even today on AC I came across someone positing that Conservatives are infringing on someone’s right to flap their gums.
That’s a bunch of dog crap and anyone with one ounce of honesty knows that it’s not true. Were it in fact the case, the articles author should have already been apprehended, but I suspect he or she is still out there espousing this nonsense, pointing the accusatory finger at the political opposition and screaming how we evil Conservatives were trying to quell their right to assemble and speak freely. Ah, but were it only the case! Then at least my ears and eyes would be free from the constant assault from the wingnut Left.
But rest assured, you anti-American fools, I will die defending your right to publicly be a disingenuous demagogue, and do so happily. See, I really do care more for my nation than my political opinion. And as much as the Socialist Left causes me to wretch, I will go down fighting to see to it you maintain your right to be an ignorant fool. After all, most of you only complain anyway, and you leave it to folks like me to take up the dirty work for ya, all the while as you criticize me for everything I do to save your ass. Ya’ll are just lucky I consider myself an American first, elseways, I’d just let ya swing. God, I love a good hanging!
