Fort Wayne, Indiana is the home of over a quarter of a million people. It is also the second largest city in Indiana. So, it comes as no surprise that there are 114 florists in the city. It is common knowledge that today the only thing that stands to be competitive in business is great customer service. After all, products can be the same. By shipping products – here and there – accessibility is another benefit that can be shared between most businesses.
However, there are five florists in Fort Wayne that are locally owned. They will go the extra mile for you when you have forgotten about Valentine’s Day, her birthday, or your anniversary. I’m not saying the others won’t. They probably will. The following florists have been a part of Fort Wayne for so long that they are synonymous with the landscape. Let’s face it, longevity helps!
Cottage Flowers: Located in the center of downtown Fort Wayne, at 236 E. Wayne Street, Cottage Flowers, was originated by Bob Schowe when he came home from World War Two in 1946. They are a part of the downtown area. Jerry Showe, his nephew, is the owner of the place now, and it has grown with the times. They are reliable and have always put the customer first. Their specialties for Valentine’s Day this year are Love Lights. Cottage Flowers carry more than flowers and balloons. They also package a unique caramel popcorn candy for shipment. Delicious!
Four Seasons Flowers: Connie and Jerry Seitz bought the Four Seasons Flower company in 1986 from the original owner who had owned it since 1976! They are located in Times Corners in the southwest part of Fort Wayne. Red roses, handpicked flower shops in their network of partner flower shops and afghans. These are a mixture of the kind of products Four Seasons offers this year for Valentines Day.
Lopshire Flowers: This is a flower shop that has been in business since 1930 and is accessible 24 hours a day, still! Lopshire’s can be found on the north side of Fort Wayne, at 6418 E. State Blvd. What sets Lopshire’s apart from the rest? They are just like Cheers, they know your name! They also know the name of the people you send your flowers to – because that is their business.
The Posey Shoppe Florists and Gifts: Like many florist businesses in Fort Wayne Posey’s is family-owned. Posey’s has been in business since 1941 and is owned by sisters, Rhonda Dennon and Sandy Morrell. They are located on the southwest part of Fort Wayne, in the Village of Coventry. This corner flower shop not only carries flowers, but also offers seasonal fruit baskets – something different for Valentine’s Day and for those health conscious people in your lives.
Flowers and Barbara: Do you want an experience in architectural history while ordering those flowers? In 2002 Barbara Horn-May, the owner of Flowers and Barbara bought this Italianate styled house in the historic West Central neighborhood. She then completely renovated it from a residential to a commercial entity. A new Flowers and Barbara was born! Flowers and Barbara was also a 2002 Business Expansion Award Winner because of their continued involvement with community business development. Flowers and Barbara stands ready to help you supply your floral needs. But, they also are an active member of the business community. Their floral products have just the right touch of personal attention that makes the customer confident that their loved one will feel special on that important day.
Red Roses are the traditional gift for Valentine’s Day because they symbolize love and passion. These florists stand ready to help you send your ultimate message on that special day.
