He has spent like a drunken sailor. As a former sailor, I know that is a high standard. So Mr. Bush gets credit, he and his Congress managed to find new ways to spend money they don’t even have. Like the sailor who will borrow twenty in a bar and promise to pay thirty back on payday. And his deficit spending is just as senseless. Excess in spending, in give aways to corporations and the super-wealthy. Excess in hubris, thinking that his way is the only way, no matter what the situation. And excessive fear mongering. It is one thing to make the populace aware. It is quite another to use fear as a weapon against your own people.
Incompetence. Putting America into a needless war and ignoring a necessary one. Using the very strange logic that the best way to fight terrorism is to make many more terrorists. Having no workable plan in Iraq. And refusing to listen to anyone who might. Gross incompetence when New Orleans was faced with a disaster. Why is it that every time there is a crisis in America Bush is either on vacation or out stumping? Shouldn’t a President be expected to actually do his job in a timely manner? Shouldn’t the people of New Orleans and Mississippi be able to expect more?
And cowardice. Bush is like the neighborhood bully that got called out. And was shown to be a paper tiger, a coward pathetically trying to hide behind the fear he has helped to create. He has created problems the world over, but he has wrecked Iraq. President Bush, more than any other person or entity, is responsible for has happened-and what is happening now -in Iraq. Building a house of lies and deception, he has even pushed some of his staunchest supporters to the “end of their rope.” Then along came the November elections. The American people put their foot down, loudly. For anyone that doubts the power of elections, look at how the tone has changed since November 7th. Rumsfeld is gone. Less than one in four Americans think that the war in Iraq is going well. What they perceive as well, I’m not sure. Afghanistan, where Osama Bin Ladin was operating from-and where the resurgent Taliban is getting stronger-virtually ignored by the Bush Administration. The Iraq study group has come out with its findings, and they don’t make the President and his policies look good. This in spite of the fact that James Baker has tried to make sure it offers Bush some cover.
So what has this President done? Take heed of any of the recommendations? Begin to change policies now that might help Iraq and the soldiers fighting there? Not yet, it’s almost vacation time! So he is going on a “listening tour.” He has had how many years to listen to anyone outside of his little cabal? And now, he says he wants to hear from everyone. Our cowardly President is going to spend the holiday most likely down in Texas, “thinking over options.” He is out shopping for anyone who might be ignorant enough to agree with him while the situations in Iraq and Afghanistan continue to rapidly deteriorate. So we must wait, while he “deciders.” Nancy Pelosi has said that impeachment is off the table. She might not have much choice, the American people might demand it!
