If you dropped off the face of the earth today, would it matter? Outside of a few friends and some family, would anyone even know you were no longer here?
Why are you here and why should you even bother to get out of bed?
Everyday we all go doing the same things, going through the motions, while secretly wishing we could have, do, and be so much more. The dreams of our youth fading and being replaced by what we call reality. We live our lives wrapped up in much ado about nothing.
We all seem to live life almost like we are sleepwalking. What would happen if you suddenly woke up? Who would you find living in your skin? Life is speeding by, every monotonous day bringing more stuff to do with no reward. Bigger demands on our time with less and less satisfaction. Yet most of us don’t even notice. We’re too busy living our busy monotonous lives to even realize what’s happening.
The sixties and seventies saw a generation that started out down a path of self-discovery, asking the age old questions. “Who am I?” and “Why am I here?” Yet they ended up cashing-in their free-spirited search for what the generations before them proclaimed as the way to security. Supposedly that secure financial future that was paramount to a good life. An existence where you traded your dreams for a steady paycheck.
So look at us now. Most of us have succeeded; we have met the definitions of the previous generations. We’ve got it all yet nothing really matters. Nothing seems to truly make us happy. We still have those eternal questions still deep inside our soul. We’re blind to the fact that our most precious commodity; time, is falling through our fingers like sand in the hour glass.
For most people life is just a series of moments filled with stress, and strain. We struggle and resist what is. We hate getting up to go to work. We hate taking the kids to practice. We just keep doing it as we think that is what “successful” people do. Those dreams we had and those things that we wanted, become less and less a part of who we are. We all have become so numb, we don’t even notice the years that go by. We all forgot what we wanted. We forgot and gave up, in exchange for mere money. Now we all ask; Is this as good as it gets? Is there a point to it all? Is this all there is?
I am going to tell you a secret: Today is all there is. Yesterday is over, just a fleeting memory and tomorrow doesn’t exist. The present moment is all you have.
Occasionally there have been those people who stood for something. Those people that have made a difference. These are the ones who fill the pages of our history books. Their stories give us a glimmer of hope, an inkling of what we could be or do. They show us that there is more to life than just working for forty years, retirement and death. There is a greatness waiting for us. A purpose, nay, a reason to be. Because isn’t that what our soul craves after all? A life of purpose?
Have you ever stopped to really think about why you are here and what really matters to you? Do you remember who you are? What untapped greatness lies trapped inside of you?
Now pay attention to this question: If you could have, do or be absolutely anything… what would it be? Who would you be?
Now read it again. When you are done reading this question, ponder it and really think hard. Isn’t it time you woke up and lived a life that actually matters? Don’t you want a real life filled with meaning?
Wake up. This is your wake-up call. You have an urgent need to realize what it is you want, what you want to be. Set a goal for yourself. No, more than a goal; A Dream! Something that makes you want to get up, to want to go places and do things. Something that will make your life mean something. Look at your life. Discover your passion and blaze your own path to whatever makes your heart sing.
If you do not have a dream, you will continue to pay the price of a life without purpose; just going through the motions without ever enjoying real happiness. You were designed with a unique purpose that only you can fulfill. There is a greatness inside of you just waiting to be unleashed. Imagine for a moment what it would feel like to live every day truly alive with purpose and passion. Imagine the feeling each night as you climb into bed, knowing that today you made a difference.
I will say this again, as it is that important; “Today is all there is. Yesterday is over, and tomorrow doesn’t exist”. Pay attention to this moment and every moment. You’ll never get this moment back. Now, today, this moment, is all you get. I recommend that you use it wisely. You can have and do and be what you want. You can, but only if you make the decision. Yes, you have to make the choice, as this my friend, is your life.
Your life starts NOW. You have been given the key, the knowledge you need. You can’t unlearn it. Will you seize this moment or go and continue your pursuit of nothing? Will you have a meaning of life? It’s your choice.
