The Mount Charleston Lodge is only a forty minute drive from the Las Vegas Strip. During the summer when the Strip can get to a boiling 120F Mount Charleston is at least twenty degree’s cooler. With just a couple of dozen cabins you will want to make reservations before planning your vacation there. The Mount Charleston Lodge is a very popular place so don’t wait to make those reservations.
My husband used to be the maintenance man for the Mount Charleston Lodge and I had a unique opportunity to visit the Lodge many times while my husband worked there.
First thing you will notice is the beautiful drive up the mountain, the smells change so does the scenery. You start in the desert and end with beautiful Pine tree’s and greenery as far as the eye can see. During the winter months your drive will lead you into a beautiful snow covered mountain and crisp clean air.
As you walk into the Mount Charleston Lodge you will notice a large open fireplace in the middle of the room. The lobby is filled with furniture all in a warm inviting colors, high ceilings and a rustic atmosphere.The staff will immediately make you feel welcome as you step up to the counter to check in, but you may not be able to stop yourself from looking out the huge windows at the spectacular views.
They have individual log cabins perfect for couples who want to spend some quality alone time together. Each cabin has a fireplace, whirlpool, private deck for viewing one of the most magnficent views you’ll ever have on vacation and the cabins themselves are very large.
Depending on what time of year you go there you will get to see different things around the Lodge. During the summertime the flowers will be in bloom, nature’s little animals will be out and about and you might just see squirrels, rabbits, different bird species, and the occasional deer. If you like to go hiking you will most likely come across one of the many babbling brooks or small streams. There are also many hiking trails you can walk, from really easy trails to harder trails for most experienced hikers.
But no matter what you decide to do, don’t forget to make a stop in the restaurant. They serve some of the best food you’ll ever eat. Have you ever wanted to try something different like Ostrich or Elk or maybe you want to stick with a good ole fashioned hamburger. Whatever you decide you won’t be sorry.
Before you leave don’t forget to stop inside the Holiday Shoppe where you can find practically anything for that hard to buy for person that’s expecting a souvenir from your vacation. The shoppe houses a large variety of glass statues as well as gifts in wood and ceramic.
As you leave I’m sure you’ll feel as I did and wish you could stay longer but you’ll be very glad you came.
