As my regular readers will be aware of, I am a huge fan of all things tea. I have very seldom met a tea that I didn’t like. That being said, however, I do enjoy some teas more than others and I have noticed patterns in my tea preferences. For instance, on the whole I enjoy black teas more than green teas, and I enjoy chamomile tea before bed, etc. But while on the whole I enjoy black teas more than green teas, I recently discovered one green tea in particular that has made its way into my normal tea rotation: The Strawberry Green Tea by The Republic of Tea, offered by Harry and David.
The Harry and David / Republic of Tea Strawberry Green Tea is a basic green tea blend with the following ingredients: fine china green tea, fine china white tea buds, natural strawberry and cream flavoring, and genuine strawberry bits. While there is nothing too unusual about this particular mix of ingredients, the specific blend of these ingredients, used by the Republic of Tea, combine to form a type of synergy creating one of the most delicious green tea blends I have ever tasted.
As indicated above, the most unique thing about the Republic of Tea’s Strawberry Green Tea by Harry and David is the flavor. The strawberry flavor of this tea is quite pronounced and is most certainly a result of the pieces of dried strawberry included in each teabag. The wonderful thing about this strawberry flavoring is that it tastes perfectly genuine and does not even hint of an artificial flavoring. While the ingredients list is cryptic about what constitutes “natural cream flavoring,” there is a creamy smoothness to the tea that compliments the fruitiness of the strawberry flavoring. I usually serve this tea to myself in the mornings with a teaspoon of sugar (or perhaps Splenda, if I am feeling unusually health-conscious that morning), as the sweetness of the sugar compliments the fruity creaminess of the Republic of Tea Strawberry Green Tea blend. This may be a bias on my part, however, as in general I prefer sweetened tea rather than plain tea. Your individual preference may vary here if you decide to give the Strawberry Green Tea by the Republic of Tea a try.
Another unique factor about the Republic of Tea brand in general is that their tea comes packaged in attractive metal cylinders with colorful labels. Their packages are packages that you would be proud to display in the kitchen to show off your tea tastes rather than to hide in the pantry. This can be important for those wanting to impress the Joneses. As for the teabags themselves, they are a unique round shape without a string. The interesting shape of the teabags makes for a great conversation piece, but the lack of a string for a handle necessitates that one either leave the teabag in the cup of tea the entire time or have a spoon ready to fish out the teabag when the tea reaches the desired strength. This is a minor inconvenience, but if you are having someone over for high tea, you will want to be prepared with the required utensils ready to go.
In conclusion, I have nothing but praise for the Strawberry Green Tea produced by the Republic of Tea and offered by Harry and David. Even if you are not a green tea fan in general, you might try making an exception for this particular variety due to its unique flavor over other competing rands of green tea. A suppose a prerequisite is that you must like strawberries, but if so you should be very happy with the real strawberry flavor of this tea.
