Ours is a world where people don’t know what they want. To quote Lawrence Peter; “If you don’t know where you’re going, you’ll probably end up somewhere else.” Almost everyone entertains the notions of fame and fortune, but not with a specific goal in mind. You can not be rich and famous without being in the position. For example, movie stars are rich and famous. What would you be that would make you famous and rich?
The writer Thomas Wolfe wrote, “I had been sustained by that delightful illusion of success which we all have when we dream about the books we are going to write instead of actually doing them.” Do you expect the world to just hand you your riches? I am sure you have heard about lotto winners. Most of who end up just as broke or worse off then they were when they won. Those people did not build their fortune to know how to take care of it. They were given, and they had it taken away.
Take the time to think about your own aspirations. Look inside to find what feels right. Maybe you’re studying a craft or skill, or already working in a career. You should know what you like and want, and find out what fits you.
Remember-conviction requires certain qualities of action. Which star are you reaching for? You must be sincere and be willing to assume responsibility. You need the self-discipline necessary to work towards your goals. Are you prepared to achieve your dreams? Will you devote your entire being to attaining what you want?
The single attribute that every successful person has is the one-pointed devotion to attain a goal. What are your desires? How can you form them into definite goals that you can attain? Can you form their reality in your mind? In six months or one year, where will you be? What will you have? Write it down, visualize and repeat it until it feels good…natural and normal…at least twice a day until it swirls in your subconscious, until it becomes your single-pointed goal.
Your convictions and goals are your true business, and you should be willing to go through anything to get it. Even when you find help along the path. Nevertheless, ultimately you’re on your own to achieve.
People are judged by what they think, and what they say. However the true measure of their character is what they do. Anyone who has achieved success and fortune in the world has done it by action. Why wait for the time to pass?
Cultivate a sense of justice and an ability to make decisions. Cooperate with everybody and develop your own self-respect. Also follow good criticism and advice after you have judged carefully. If you attain your goals with poise and sincerity, you will find warmth and love at the top-not the cold loneliness tormenting the jealous. Put on blinders to negative comments and criticism meant to hurt you.
About the people who criticize, Voltaire wrote, “Never having been able to succeed in the world, they took revenge by speaking ill of it.”
The choice of the path you follow is often put before you as opportunity. William Jennings Bryan wrote, “Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.” Can you finish a job even when it is difficult or unpleasant?
Don’t let opportunities slip past while you are still considering them, and create new ones as you see them. What opportunities can you act upon? Take your own dreams and make them become reality. Francis Bacon said; “Wise people make more opportunities than they find”.
All successful people the world over have found the opportunities for their own special talents and acted upon those ways to achieve them. Establish the goal that is right for you. Then turn that goal from a dream into a desire.
Get started today. Now is the time, right now. There will never a better time than now–for your days are numbered, and you know not your final breath.
