The Sims 2 Nightlife expansion pack is the one that finally gives the game more of a real life feeling. At the same time however, it much more difficult to play for several reasons, but mostly load time. It is just as addictive as the others, and now even more all encompassing.
The nightlife expansion, when combined with university and pets, can give the player the feeling the their Sims lives can be more complete than their own. Cars are probably the biggest change in the game. Now any teen, adult, or elder Sim can drive themselves to work, school, and downtown. The next biggest change is the downtown area. Now you don’t just have a random store here and there, but also can enjoy restaurants, clubs, bowling Allies, and card shacks. Any Sim wishing to live downtown have that option as well, preset houses are provided there, and the downtown can be played just like any other neighborhood.
The Gypsy matchmaker can be helpful in finding a mate, but only if you pay her enough. Vampires haunt the downtown, and being careful not to be bitten is key. After all, making sure you don’t leave your home during daylight hours can be difficult. The date meter lets you know if you are striking out with your girlfriend, or giving her a dream date straight from her imagination.
Also new are the groups. These casual acquaintances all go out together, enjoying the company of one another while fostering other relationships. Groups are an excellent way to provide the lonesome Sim with some social time. The game has many other new features, items, and decorative styles.
Game play is always fun, but after awhile the load times become ridiculous. Once adding a few expansions, it is often best to only play when you know you have all the time you wish, because starting and stopping this game can take the better part of five minutes. Though this seems relatively short, compared to other games, it can seem long.
On the creative front, the creators couldn’t have done a better job. This game is extremely rich in detail. If you aren’t picky, try resetting the graphics option for the game. This will decrease the load time as well as remove any lagging you may experience. The game is fun. It can amuse a player for hours as you help your favorite character through college and into his life. One of the most satisfying aspects of the game can involve the handing down of the family fortune from father to son, or whomever.
Whatever you do, and however you play The Sims 2 and any of the expansions, just remember one thing: Seasons will be out soon!
