These days most people have pets. Some have a dog or a couple of dogs. Others have a cat or even a few cats. And then their are those of us have both, cats and dogs.
Pets are great to have when you are around the house. They provide companionship, responsibility and a grain of humor like our cat Tigger who like to greet up while hanging from the from screen door. He had a penchant for getting his claws stuck in the wire mesh. You could open and close the door and he would hang there like an oversized door knocker.
When it is time to take a trip for a few days or a week, pets can be anything but convenient. Some people just leave the cats a huge bowl of food and water. They put the dog outside with what seems like enough to hold the pooch.
Most folks, like us, consider our pets’ family and want to make sure they are well taken care of in our absence. For those “Pet Lovers” in North Raleigh there are fortunately a number of excellent choices.
For those who like to leave their pet at a Veterinarian, the Fisher Veterinary might be a good choice. Located on Gresham Lake Road it is an easy drive from just about anywhere in North Raleigh.
As a Veterinarian owned hospital, there will be someone who can take care of you dog or cat, should something be amiss. This can provide peace of mind, particularly with those who have animals that have had problems.
Fisher offers Grooming, Vet services and Boarding for cats and dogs.

A second, equally easy to reach Veterinary Hospital is the Falls Village Veterinary Hospital on Harps Mill Rd. This facility is a bit older, having been founded in 1974. That was a time when most of North Raleigh was a forest north of the city of Raleigh.
Dr. David Ellis opened our hospital in 1974. He graduated from the University of Georgia School of Veterinary Medicine after receiving his undergraduate degree from NC State University.
Dr. Ellis is an avid outdoorsman and golfer. He has three Labrador Retrievers.
Dr David Ellis the Veterinarian who opened the facility in 1974 is an owner of three Labrador Retrievers. This Hospital is closely affiliated with many animal rescue ventures including: Neuse River Golden Retriever Club; Snowflake Animal Rescue; SAFE Haven For Cats; Independent Animal Rescue and Ashley’s Angel Fund.

The Canine Country Club is my favorite place to leave my pets. We usually leave Lucy, a beautiful long haired collie and Fiona an Australian Shepherd with a deep undercoat.
They get to play three times a day, have treats and sleep on cots that keep them from having to sleep on the floor. Lucy loves the opportunity to talk (bark) incessantly with the other dogs. Fiona is just there for the treats and pats.
The cats don’t seem to like the confinement, so we get a cat sitter to come by once a day. They are free to roam the house which seems to give them great pleasure.
The dogs prefer, it seems, the freedom that the country club provides. Especially the multiple romps each day.
The toughest part of sending our dogs to the country club is getting them back. They really seem to love it. Like small kids they like to turn and try to go back in. When we approach the Club, they both begin wagging their whole bodies. It can be a dangerous addiction. If they could write a review they would give this place four stars.

All of these facilities require that dogs and cats have up to date shot records. The Veterinary Hospitals can provide these services if needed. They may have a minimum period in advance of boarding, so please call ahead.
It is my experience with the Country Club that you must book well in advance, particularly around holidays. We have had to board our dogs elsewhere at least a couple of times, even though we thought we were calling with enough advance notice. This is a very popular place for both pets and pet owners.
