Just about everybody loves the Super Bowl. I know that I do and every year I plan a huge Super Bowl Party for all of my friends. What I look to do is something for both the kids and the adults. This way the kids stay occupied during the game!
First let’s talk decorating. I know what you are thinking; it’s the house so why decorate. But it really helps if you get everyone in the mood by adding a few simple decorations. First you will want to decide (if you don’t already know) how many people will be coming. Then you will want to arrange the furniture so that everyone will have a comfortable seat. I like to try sitting in each seat to make sure that they have a good view of the TV. Next I usually put out a few throws with my favorite footballs team name on them. It really does not matter to me if they are in the Super Bowl or not, it just helps with the décor, or if you like you can purchase a few decorations with the two Super Bowl teams on them.
Next you will want to set up the kid’s area. I have a dining room which is right next to the living room so I usually use this room for the kids. They are kind of young still so they have to be in my eyesight. If your kids are a little older you can set up a different room for them. Well, for the kids room I usually get a football tablecloth, a small one that fits the little kiddy table that I have. You can find a small kids table at Toy’s R- Us for a very affordable price. I also purchase some balloons (at least one for each kid) and tie them to the kid’s chairs. The balloons of course should match the color scheme that you are working with.
The next thing that I work on is the activities for the kids. You want to make sure that there is plenty for them to do. Last year I purchased a few of the crawling tunnels from Toy’s R-Us, and connected them from the kitchen to the living room. This worked great and it kept them busy for hours. It’s also a great way for the kids to wear themselves out! I usually also go to the art’s and craft store and pick up a few inexpensive items. Of course everything that I get is football related. For example I brought some finger paint kits for under $1ea, and a jumbo pack of construction paper. I also use some of the educational computer games that my children already have.
Finally there is the most important thing for the party and that is the food. You can not have a Super Bowl Party without lots of food. I like it to kind of feel like we are tailgating so I will fire up the Grill outside. Yes even in the cold! It works out really great this way the house is not too hot when it’s about game time. I cook hamburgers, hotdogs, chicken, sausage, ribs, steak, and anything else that someone comes up with. I then set up a long table in the living room, usually up against the wall, and put all of the hamburger and hotdog rolls, and all of the condiments on the table. Of course along with plates and cups and napkins of course. Any other food that someone brings is also placed on this table. I then set up a small table for the desserts. This is usually what I ask everyone to bring. It works out really nice each person or family brings one dessert, and we end up having more than enough. For drinks I have two coolers that I fill with ice, one for the Beer and one for the soda and juice. I have done this for years and this has always turned out great. It’s very simple, not a lot of work, and a whole lot of fun. Enjoy!
