When the pain is too much what is there to do? Pain medications rarely work so where do you turn now? For those that don’t know, Fibromyalgia is a Neuro Muscular disorder that causes severe amounts of pain. The cause of Fibromyalgia are still unknown but the pain is very real. People who suffer from Fibromyalgia will have good days and bad days. Fibromyalgia is often misdiagnosed and therefore mistreated. Here are some tips to help get a grip on some of the pain. Some cost money and some are free but the advice is very valuable. I suffer from Fibromyalgia personally and I am here to tell you that these tips do work.
Tip # 1
Get rid of all the narcotics the doctors push on you and switch to Aleve. This is the greatest invention ever. I have been on numerous narcotic pain medications and they do not work near as well as Aleve. I would take two Aleve in the morning and two Aleve at night. Believe me when I say , they work wonders. The best thing about them is that they do not have the effect making you feel groggy and dopey all day.
Tip # 2
Take a hot bath when your pain level reaches th breaking point. Just fill your tub up and sit and let the heat from the water relax your muscles. This does work if you allow it to work. The water can not do all the work you have to concentrate on relaxing groups of muscles a little at a time. This method usually only takes about 10 minutes to start working.
Tip # 3
First thing in the morning climb into a hot shower to begin relaxing any muscles that have gotten sore through the night. Generally the way you sleep affects how you feel in the morning. I have found that since I sleep on my side through the night my hips and shoulders tend to feel the most pain. Nothing like a hot shower to try and relax some of the pain away.
Tip # 4
Make a rice sock. This is easy to do. Take a long sock and fill it about 3/4 full with white rice and tie a knot in it. When you are having pain in a particular area put the rice sock in the microwave for about 30 seconds and apply it to the affected area, making sure it is not too hot first.
Tip # 5
Sauna / steam rooms are a god send for us folks with Fibromyalgia. Yes it does require money but a half hour in a sauna / steam room can work wonders on your muscles. This works great when you are having a flare up episode.
Tip # 6
Massage therapy is a tool that I think should be standard issue for those who suffer from chronic pain. A Total body Massage once or twice a week does a great job to relax muscles that have become sore through everyday stress.
Tip # 7
Water therapy can be a benefit as long as it is heated water. Please , for your own sake do not attempt water therapy in cold water, it will only make things worse for you. Alot of times water therapy is offered at your local gym or YMCA. It is defiantly something to give a shot.
I know some of these tips can run into some money but if it is something that you can comfortably afford even once or twice a month it will bring you some relief. Fibromyalgia is no joke and neither is the pain. Remember this is a life long disorder and the sooner you can get a grip on it the sooner you can win your life back.
