When your baby beings to crawl or even roll over for the first time, you feel a combination of emotions. On the one hand you are probably very excited that your little one is about to embark on a whole new world of exploration. However you are probably also scared of the many things that can cause them harm now that they are mobile. Following are a few suggestions on how you can keep your baby safe when they begin to roll over or crawl.
1. Never leave your baby on a bed or a couch. Most parents feel very comfortable resting their baby on their bed or on their sofa for a nap or just for a few minutes when they are infants. Especially if you feel that they are not yet mobile. I should point out that if you ever leave your baby on a bed or a couch you should make sure that you or someone else is watching them the entire time, just in case. However once your realize that your baby is now mobile you should never place them on a bed or couch, even if it is for a second because that is exactly how long it takes for them to fall off.
2. Baby proof your home. This may even require that you get on your hands and knees and crawl around your home in order to see things the way babies do. You may not realize how many items are within your child’s view and reach until you put yourself in their shoes. You should make sure that you use the child safety locks and gates when your baby first becomes mobile.
3. Never leave your baby on the floor unattended. Just because you have taken the time to baby proof your house does not mean that your little one can not get hurt. You should never leave a young baby, especially one that is mobile, unsupervised. Even if it is just for a second. Remember that it does not take long for your child to get injured.
4. Use a playpen. If you have something that you need to get done and you still want your baby to be able to play then just place them in a play pen. Make sure that there is nothing in the playpen that they can hurt themselves on, or eat. This is definitely a great way for moms to get some housework done, while still making sure that the baby is safe and sound.
These are just a few suggestions on how you can help to make sure that your baby does not get seriously injured when they are beginning to crawl or roll over. Remember that you can never protect your child from every getting hurt; it is just something that kids do. However you can make sure that they do not get seriously injured, by taking a few steps like the ones mentioned above.
