For a woman, a ladies bag is a major accessory. And we take no prisoners when it comes to acquiring the bag we set our sights on. Where some prices may be higher than we prefer to pay, most women find quality ladies bags not only a major part of their wardrobe, but find they are in fact an investment.
Speaking of investments, enter Birkin ladies bags. Not only is a Birkin bag an investment, there is usually a waiting list just to get one. Remember the episode from Sex and The City where Kim Cattrall perpetrated to get a Birkin Bag under Lucy Liu’s name. Well in real life, Birkin Bags are constantly in demand. Made by Hermes, these ladies bags for years have remained a treasured hard to acquire item. It was no different in 2006.
It was and remains the must have fashion accessory. Exactly how far have people gone for Birkin Bags? Under normal circumstances depending on the year the bag was made, an average retail cost for a leather ladies bag is $650.00, which includes the bag with the orange box, gift bag, ribbon, sleepers lock and keys and the year identification. Should you opt for something more extravagant such as the crocodile bag, the average price is $4,300.00.
Dooney & Bourke ladies bags remain a popular accessory, particularly having added the “Signature Quilt” pattern to their line. The average price for the Shoulder Bag is $295.00 where the Shoulder Tote ranges up to $295.00. One of the most necessary and versatile items they offered for 2006 was the Dooney & Bourke Large Zip Around Wallet complete with an inside zip pocket, storage pouch, and 12 credit card pockets. The average cost is $175.00 and available in three colors.
Coach ladies bags remain a classic with all age groups. With quality that surpasses all, there is no way to go wrong with a Coach purchase. My favorite for 2006 is the bag offered for the 2006 holiday season. It is a Patchwork Gallery Tote, which costs $398.00. Other styles are available in this collection as well. A combination of signature Coach imprint, leather, metallic and pebbled leather, suede and other fabrics, the bag is a beautiful must have for a Fall/Winter accessory. The Coach Signature Bags reigned supreme this year offering several styles in ladies bags to choose from. The Medium Duffle costs $278.00, whereas the Shoulder Tote costs $328.00.
The “oversize” ladies bags have been popular for several seasons now. Michael Kors “Yacht Club” Large Shopper is one of the most functional and desirable to have. Made of pebbled leather with contrast stitching, and available in black or brown, the bag retails for $348.00. It is available at most high-end department stores.
BCBG is another always in demand line with their “Hudson” Leather Shopper Bag. This is a very trendy bag made of leather with tassels accents, metallic studs, and a footed bottom. This bag retails for $198.00. The “Mercer Large Shopper” is comparable and just as attractive. Both are available at most high-end department stores.
Kenneth Cole remains a name to be reckoned with, with his high-end ladies bags. Some of the more popular for the year are the “Braid in Manhattan” Large Drawstring Bag, which is beautiful especially in the Cream color. This bag costs a mere $128.00. Another favorite was the oversize ladies bag “On the Fold” leather tote available in Espresso or Black at an average retail price of $158.00.
Juicy Couture appears to have the magic touch not only in fashion but in ladies bags as well. All of their bags are hip, trendy, and fun and are particularly popular with the younger set. The average price for Juicy Couture bags range anywhere from $100.00 up. Many of the bags are pretty colors such as pink and green and adorned with the Juicy Couture logo, and look very nice with or without their clothing line. This appears to be a line that struck gold and their hipness personifies the current Generation X. They are sharp, fun, and appear to have a promising future. Their “Maggie Pom Pom Tote,” made of leather, and available in Mink or Black, is a little more conservative than some of the other bags. This bag retails at $350.00 and is available at most high-end department stores.
Let us not forget Kate Spade. These ladies bags are the epitome of class and style. The Kate Spade “Foster Crossing Anne” drawstring bag is a particularly feminine style. Available in a beautiful saddle color, or black, this bags retails for $465.00 and is available at most high-end department stores. One of the classic Kate Spade styles if the “Merrywood Emma Short” shoulder bag which is a must have accessory item for ones wardrobe. Very dainty, yet classy, this bags costs $475.00. Both are available at high-end department stores.
Cole Haan remains at the top of the industry with its’ reputable, sturdy and beautiful styles. Their products are classics that withstand the test of time, and for 2006 their ladies bags stood out among the best. In the oversize category, which was a very popular ladies bag the past few seasons, the Cole Haan “Page Medium Tote,” available in Black and Cognac, retails for $345.00. One of my favorite bags made this year is for the Bohemian style. The style is called “G Series G Coin Medium Hobo Bag” retailing at $425.00.
One of my favorite bags for the season is by Furla. The “Gisele Large” Handheld Shopper in “Dune” which is a sand like color, is a soft buttery leather bag with contrast stitching, and a strap drop. This bag could be used as a dress bag or casually. Available in most high-end department stores, the Giselle Large ladies bag retails for $395.00.
No matter the designer, or the price, as women we love ladies bags. Get what you like, get what makes you happy, and above all get what makes you the “fashionista” of your world.
