DETROIT – Police discovered what they believe to be a missing woman’s torso on Saturday March 3, 2007. Thirty-four year-old Tara Grant went missing on February 9, 2007. Her husband did not report her missing until five days after she had disappeared reports the Denver Post.
The Denver Post reports that police say Tara Grant and her husband, Stephen Grant, had an argument regarding her frequent business trips on the day she disappeared. According to the Denver post Tara Grant worked as an operations manager for Washington Group International, located in Boise Idaho. The construction and engineering company owns an office in a suburb of Detroit, Michigan where Grant was employed. The company often sent her on business trips to Puerto Rico reports the paper.
Macomb County Sheriff Mark Hacket said the woman’s torso was discovered in the couple’s garage according to the Denver Post. Hacket said that Stephen Grant is their first and only suspect at this time in the murder of his wife in a press conference today. The Detroit News also reports police asserting that Stephen Grant may have had help killing his wife. Hacket reports there are 100 officers on hand to comb the areas in and around the home for further evidence and body parts says the Detroit Free Press.
Stephen Grant was detained yesterday, but was later allowed to return to his home because they did not have enough evidence to detain him further reports the Detroit Free Press. The Denver Post reports he let officers into his home to conduct a search. Stephen Grant is reported to have been missing since this morning and law enforcement officials do not currently know his whereabouts reports the Detroit News.
David Griem, Stephen Grant’s lawyer reports that his client is suicidal according to the Denver Post. Griem said, “I spent some significant period of time begging him to meet with me and reminding him of all the reasons why he had to live,” the Denver Post declares. Griem told the Detroit News that he believes Grant committed suicide. The Detroit Free Press reports that Griem said he spoke to Grant two times this Saturday morning and that he has no doubt in his mind that his client committed suicide after the second conversation.
Police officials continue to search for Stephen Grant for questioning in the murder case. Hacket says they are proceeding with this case as if Stephen Grant is still alive reports the Detroit Free Press.
Tara and Stephen Grant have two children, a 4-year-old son and a 6-year-old daughter. The Denver Post reports they were staying with relatives on Friday night.
The Detroit News reports Hacket encouraging Michigan residents to keep an eye out for the truck Grant may be driving, a 2006 yellow Dodge Dekota with an extended cab truck with the liscence plate number 9FLR57.
