Tulsa the City

by sumo nova

Tulsa, Oklahoma is a town with a rich history and historical significance. This beautiful city has been the birthplace of musical legends, artists, politicians and even a few actors and actresses.
It was once voted the most beautiful city in America, back in the 50’s, and still houses some wonderful parks and golf courses, including Southern Hills Golf Course, which has hosted major PGA events. Some of its buildings still reflect the artistry of Frank Lloyd Wright, an architect that stunned the majority of the world with his work.
Though there has been some strife throughout the years, both racial bigotry as well as religious intolerance, Tulsa still has a very diverse and dynamic culture. With the Arkansas River rolling through the center, and the foothills of the Ozarks a telling point, Tulsa has been a major city in Oklahoma since its inauguration.
There are famous museums and nightclubs, including the Cains, where musicians of all types have played. There are featured hotels, churches, malls and restaurants. The city is large enough to be considered a metropolis, yet still small enough to hold that small town charm that so many Americans love.
Plus, as a major hub for the modern world, Tulsa hosts some of the largest companies in the world. Its central location lets it act as a transportation Mecca. With roads, including the famous Route 66, converging in its center, trucks and travelers have long used Tulsa to find their destination.
If you enjoy western art, then visit the Gilcrease Museum. It has photos, paintings and sculptures from some of the top western artists. The grounds hold everything from a cemetery, of the Gilcrease family, to old west style contests. Which, if you have never seen one, will excite the pure child in you. There are old style fiddle contests, axe throws, and kettle korn, during Gilcrease Days. Make sure and watch the Native Americans perform their dances, for that in itself is a sight to see.
Which brings me to the Native part of Tulsa. We have one of the largest populations of Native Americans in the country. Everything from sand art to war dances can be seen here. Side by side, native Indians and European settlers live together, each learning from the other. If you have never witnessed a rain dance, then Tulsa, Oklahoma will show you the beauty of the dance.
Also, if you are in the mood for a quite stroll with a loved one, a walk along riverside will soothe most any heart. While there, rent out a pair of skates, and remember your younger years as you glide along the path, listening to the river and enjoying the plants along the way.
Finally, Tulsa is very affordable to visit. There are great places to see, wonderful things to do, and a life beat that will captivate anyone who comes. It’s an American city, where history meshes with beauty, and only lives a few steps away.
