This simple Valentine’s Day craft project is great for anyone who has a little extra time to make a cute wreath. The great thing is it is weather proof! You can hang this simple heart shaped wreath inside or outside to decorate for Valentine’s Day.
In the end you will end up with a clearish red colored Valentine’s Day wreath that looks perfect with a red, purple, or pink ribbon and any embellishment you want to add on.
To Make This Valentine’s Day wreath You Will Need:
Red plastic wrap
Hanger (the wire kind)
The first step is to go ahead and unwind your metal hanger. I like to put on a pair of gloves and twist out the hanger part. Then open the metal hanger and pull it out flat as possible. Leave the hook part in place.
Now, go ahead and form a heart shaped form out of the wire hanger. Have the hook remain in place at the top. You can form the heart and then bend the hook so it is upright.
If you want to make a smaller heart shaped Valentine’s Day wreath out of this recycle craft material, then cut off a few inches from the non-hook end of your hanger. This will allow you to form a smaller heart form.
Now, take your red plastic wrap. Start cutting it into small strips. I like strips of plastic that are about 2 inches wide and about 6 inches long. You can make them wider and longer if you wish. If you go much longer than 8 inches though, you will have a somewhat droopy Valentine’s Day wreath.
You will need a lot of these red strips of plastic, so get the kids involved!
Now, take one strip and tie it in a knot around the metal heart shaped frame. Anywhere you want. Tie ties in half exactly so that you end up with two equal ends of plastic sticking out.
You want to have the ends sticking out towards the front o f the Valentine’s Day wreath.
Now, repeat this step over and over.
Each time turn the plastics strips so the knot is at the back and the strips are facing front.
Repeat this until you have a full Valentine’s Day heart shaped wreath.
Now take your red, pink, or purple Valentine’s Day ribbon and tie it in a large flat bow. You can slip some floral wire through the back of the knot and fasten it onto the Valentine’s Day wreath frame.
You should use the original hook to hang the homemade Valentine’s Day heart wreath.
Now, if you cannot stand the thought of this retro or minimalist looking red Valentine’s Day wreath, then you can add some color.
One way is to spray paint the entire wreath with a coat of spray paint after you have attached all of the strips of plastic.
Finally, you could mist the entire assemble Valentine’s Day wreath with a spray adhesive. Lightly sprinkle on fine red, pink, purple, silver, or gold glitter until you have it coated. Tap the Valentine’s Day heart Wreath off in a garbage bag to save any glitter that did not stick.
