by sumo nova

These simple Valentine’s Day Themed Heart Floating Candles are a simple candle craft project that is perfect for giving as a romantic gift to your sweetie. The Valentine’s Day heart shaped floating candles are simple to make and look great floating in a beautiful glass dish on the coffee table. I also like to place some in the bathroom in a rectangular clear glass dish on the back of the toilet seat. They add a nice glow and a fresh scent when you are having guest over for a Valentine’s Day party!

You can make these simple floating Valentine’s Day candles in less than an hour. They will require some cooling and curing time, but you can move on to other projects, like cooking all the food for your Valentine’s Day party while they set.

This simple Valentine’s Day candle project should cost you less than $25 and you will have a bunch of floating candles.

For a romantic touch on the dinner table you could float a candle in a glass at each place setting. Use glasses in a variety of heights. Fill them with water to different levels. You could also add some food coloring to the water and make your Valentine’s Day floating candles out of white wax. This is a simple and affordable way to set a Valentine’s Day dinner table on a budget.

To Make Some Valentine’s Day Floating Candles You Will Need:
Clay
Valentine’s Day themed cookie cutters
Wick
Wax or old candles
Tin can
Popsicle sticks
Scissors

To melt the wax bits or pieces of old candle take a clean tin can and bend a spout in the top so you can easily pour the melted wax out later. Put wax into the can.

Now, place the can in a shallow pot of boiling water until the wax is melted. (You can also melt your wax in a microwave safe glass measuring cup or bowl with a spout. Microwave in 15 second intervals so you do not over heats the wax.)

While the wax is melting roll out the clay about ¾ inch thick and wide enough to fit your cookie cutter. Place the cookie cuter in the center of the clay and push in a little, but do not make the cutter cut all the way through the clay.

Set a wick in the center of the cookie cutter and lay a Popsicle stick flat across the cookie cutter to lean the excess wick against so it doesn’t fall in.

Pour in the melted wax.

If you are using unscented wax this is where you would add a few drops of the fragrance oil to the hot wax.

Let the candles set for 2 hours and then remove the cookie cutter from the clay.

Tip: You can put the Valentine’s Day cookie cutters and candles into the freezer for 15 minutes to make removing the cookie cutter much easier.

After 15 minutes in the freezer the candle should easily release from the cookie cutter.

You can use a paring knife to trim any rough edges if needed.

Tips:

If you plan to use these floating Valentine’s Day candles on you dinner table DO NOT add a fragrance. The smell will interfere with the tastes of your food.

These floating candles also make a great hostess gift or family gift for Valentine’s Day. Go ahead and put about ten floating Valentine’s Day candles in a clear glass bowl. Wrap the entire package together. Now all your recipient has to do is add water and light the candles. This is a great homemade gift that has a lot of thought put into it. It is also an easy way to personalize a gift.
