Vegans and vegetarians are not completely different from one another. However, they do have some similar and some different views on certain things. By definition, vegans are merely vegetarians who omit all meat from their diet. This is not exactly true, because vegetarians do not skip all of the meat!
Vegetarianism is the practice of not consuming any type of meat. Some vegetarians do eat animal by-products, while others do not. While vegetarians do not eat any meat products, they will eat dairy products, as well as eggs.
Vegans do not consume any animal products, as well as animal by-products. An animal byproduct is any type of dairy, and eggs. Vegans portray a lifestyle that avoids using animals and animal byproducts for food, clothing, or any other purpose. Vegans will also avoid products that were tested on animals, as well as any other source of clothing that contains animal parts. Many people feel that vegan and vegetarian diets are very unhealthy, when in reality, they may be healthier than all of us meat eaters!
A vegan diet can be much more strict than a vegetarian diet. The vegan diet consists of only grains, fruits, vegetables, and beans, which are all low in fat, and rich in fiber. Studies have shown that a strict vegan diet can help lessen symptoms of many illnesses that we may develop from eating meat!
A common thought is that all vegans and vegetarians are animal rights activists. While this may be true, some people just find the thought of eating meat disgusting! Who hasn’t thought of mad cow disease before they eat a hamburger? According to Studies, more than half of all diseases in the United States are related to diets. There are so many diseases that can be transmitted to humans through the consumption of animals and their by-products as well!
Did you know that eating meat causes you to gain weight? Animals’ flesh has cholesterol, and when we add more cholesterol to our diet than we already had, it becomes worse. Look at the meat you are eating. Does it come from a cow, pig, chicken? All of these animals are on the chubby side, so just think about it! If you are putting an animal that was once fat into your body, then how are you going to be losing weight?
What I have just mentioned above regards the difference between vegetarians and vegans. The decision to pursue a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle is entirely up to you. Regardless of the difference between these two lifestyles, just be sure that you are happy with your eating habits!
