I made the switch from Comcast Broadband to Verizon Fios. Well, the fact is that my lady made the switch for me. But the account is in my name so I had to give my OK. Realistically, I would have gone for it if it did not make sense. For the last 2 years everyone in our neighborhood had the same challenges with Comcast. We all have complained and had the special order crew out to our houses regularly. Six months ago, I dealt with cable outages and Internet outages for lengthly periods. The Comcast service had so much mircroblocking I learned how to diagnose the problem. I learned of all the error code and consistently called. Since I work quite often from home, the outages made business particularly difficult. We received Comcast credits for service amounting up to $400. We also have special order service calls to rewire and hardwire the the entire house. We literally had at least a weeks worth of visits from Comcast to fix our problems. Ironically, I think some of our problems were caused by Verizon setting up their fios network. Regardless, for the last 6 months we have not had a single problem. We have paid on time ever time. Our only problem was the price. So to save money we switched.
I had a conversation with my neighbor about the switch. He informed me that he was having problems with Comcast Broadband Internet service. Ironically, he said that he rents his box from comcast for their wireless broadband web connection. He and his wife both were having issues with the Comcast Broadband connection. Of course, his wife blamed him which meant it was up to him to fix it. He spoke to comcast about their broadband issues. Comcast informed them that they were no longer able to be on the web at the same time. Also they were inconsistently drooped by Comcast Broadband connection. He spoke to comcast and was informed that they simply no longer support the wireless box he uses for Internet connect. Mind you, the wireless box he uses is one he rents monthly from comcast. To say the least he was not happy with is comcast service. After he gave me the the updates on his Comcast Broadband disappointment, I gave him 5 points I learned about the Verizon Fios.
5) Verizon Fios vs Comcast Broadband signal
The signal for the fios connection is much clearer than the comcast signal. All our TV’s have picture perfect signal on every channel. We have a few older model TV’s and high definition TV. Every single TV had a significant signal improvement. There was no microblocking at all on any channels. At best, with comcast broadband we saw some weak signals on some channels. I was told the further the connection from the signal, the weaker the signal. With comcast cable and broadband, I had to have direct signals to be online properly. The far points in my house need to have a signal booster in order for the signal to function at all. Verizon needed no booster at all.
4) Verizon Fios vs Comcast Channels
Verizon has more channels than comcast. Literally down to the basic channels, you get more basic cable with Verizon Fios. The premium channels you subscribe to also give you more channels with comcast. Again, the High definition compatibility is tremendous with the basic fios system. I can not imagine what this looks like on a high end plasma TV. I can see truck tire treads in normal truck commercials that are not close up in my 20 inch TV. To say the least, we know that should you have and HDTV Verizon Fios is the best way to go.
3) Verizon Fios vs Comcast Broadband Internet
Just as shown in the commercial, Verizon Fios is faster than Comcast Internet. I typically waited patiently to work with my comcast connection on the computer. My fios connection is at least 25% faster. In addition, I have a secure wireless connection for my laptop. We have one machine hard wired. We have another mobile device. Both machines work phenomenally well with the Verizon system.
2) Verizon Fios vs Comcast Cable and Broadband Cost
It is cheaper to get more services from Verizon. I’m amazed that we pay less for the Verizon Fios service than we do for comcast cable and Internet. We have, web cable and phone services through Verizon. For us, this switch was a 33% savings. Did I mention we get more cable channels and faster Internet service for less money. Literally, we pay less each month now than we did for poorer performing products.
1) Verizon Fios vs Comcast Cable and Broadband Installation
Well, comcast usually gives you a 4 hour window to come do work. Many times comcast was late or came within the last hour of that window. The installation of my comcast Internet took 3 months. We had workers come back and forth to the house to address issues many times. When we did have people out to the house they had either and excuse why they could not fix the problem, or scheduled me with an appointment with someone else. My Verizon Fios switch took one day. They even used the existing cable wires in my house. How is it that the picture is so much better if they use the same cable wires as comcast; its because of the fiber optics. Fios is a fiber optic system while cable is a hard wired system. Fios uses Glass to shoot the signal to each customer. The FIOS signal travels with much more clarity than the wire system.
So to say the least, my neighbor was sold on getting Verizon Fios. I feel like I should be getting a commission check from Verizon Fios for this glowing endorsement. However, I’m the prime example of a happy customer satisfied with the product. I comcast no harm, but I’m happy with Verizon.
