John Deere pavilion is off of I-74 in Moline. The pavilion showcases vantage and modern John Deere equipment. The displays are interactive and allow visitors to sit in the cab of a harvester. The progression of a family farm is shown up to the future of agribusiness. The Harvester Works in the John Deere Company’s local combine factory and the film The Bounty is shown depicting a farm families lifestyles as they go through the challenges of the seasons. More toward the center of Iowa you can find the city of Waterloo, Iowa. Waterloo, Iowa sits on the banks of the Cedar River and it has a population of over 68,000 people. Waterloo, Iowa has 150 industries and John Deere is one of them. John Deere has an assembly factory in Waterloo, Iowa and you are able to go there and see how the tractors are assembled. The John Deere tractor assembly offers a two hour tour that takes you through the factory and you can see the John Deere workers in action as they assemble the John Deere Tractors. You start your tour with a film to watch on the history of the John Deere tractor then a tour guide takes over and you actually go into the assembly plant. You can see small lawn tractors and large farm tractors all being put together. You walk through part of the tour and you ride in a little train like vehicle through more of the tour. In parts of the tour you see tractor parts moving overhead. It is a fascinating tour with lots to see. You can see them with several different tools putting on wheels and other parts till there is a tractor all put together ready to be sent out to a new customer. It is a nice tour but it can be loud and hard to hear the tour guide with all the machines making noise.
At the John Deere assembly plant you will find a gift shop with all kinds of John Deere items in it from t-shits to toys. The staff at the John Deere tractor Assembly plant are very friendly and knowledgeable.
The John Deere Tractor Assemble plant is free to tour but you must make a reservation to go on the tour and you can not take pictures of the Assembly plant. The John Deere Tractor Assembly in open Monday-Friday and tours are given at 8, 10 and 1. The John Deere Tractor Assembly is closed on holidays and people under 13 are not permitted to go on the tour. Only so many people are allowed on a tour at a time and the tour guides are very friendly and happy to be doing there job.
