Do you know what affects your skin? Do you want to have health, younger looking skin? The answer may be closer than you think. So many things play a role in your skin health and a few easy steps can help you improve the overall health of your skin.
I make soaps. Part of the reason why I do is because I started to read the labels. Most “soaps” on the market are not actually soaps but are detergents. They have all sorts of chemicals and other ingredients that I personally do not want on my skin or my children’s skin. The skin is the largest organ of the body. It is responsible for keeping things out as well as taking things into our bodies. A lot of what we put on our skin is taken into our internal organs. If we think about that it is often very overwhelming. From the lotion we use, to the pollution in the air it all affects us internally through our skin. It is very important that we take care of what we expose our skin to.
I have been using natural soaps and astringents for years. I use rose water on my face. I can tell you I always get compliments on my skin. What amazes me is the difference of not using it. I recently went on a trip and did not have my soap; I use a honey and oatmeal soap for my face or rose water. The skin on my face felt dry and irritated. After only a day I could feel the difference. I was using much more moisturizer that what I had been using at home.
While I felt the difference of my face after only a day of not using natural soap and astringent, it took a few days after returning home to see the difference. The first few days my skin did feel better, but still felt very dry. It took about a week for it to return to normal. My skin is very smooth, and I need little to no moisturizer. I have very few blemish occurrences, and my skin has a very nice look and feel to it. I know that I owe a lot of it to the honey and oatmeal soap and the rose water astringent.
Water makes a difference here also. It is one of my soap box issues. I know that traveling was hard on my skin because I didn’t have what I normal use on it, but also the water I drank was different and this also plays a role in the health of our skin. Healthy skin need clean water. Many of the water sources are contaminated or have been added to. Bottled or filtered water is a good alternative to drinking tap water. It is also the quantity of water that you drink. I notice a difference in my skin if I drink to little water. The recommended intake is 6 to 8 glasses a day.
Even if you can’t make your own soap or astringent there are plenty of options on the market. Read the labels and make sure that you are getting a good quality natural product. You may not notice the effects over night, but you will notice it. It is great to get compliments on your skin and told that you look years younger than you really are.
