Making hand made soap is very easy. Even if you have never made soap before, you should be able to easily complete this simple project in less than 2 hours. You should expect to pay about $15 – $20 for materials, but you can get a lot of small Wedding Favor hand soaps out of one batch.
Anyone can help with this simple Wedding Favor hand soap craft, even kids, but they will need a lot of supervision because you will be working with hot materials. I might reserve this project for teenagers and adults.
To make some Wedding Favor hand Soaps You Will Need:
Oval or Rectangle Cookie Cutters (you can also use other shapes)
1 lb Block of Heat and Pour Soap
Essential Oils (optional, but go for cinnamon or rose for a romantic wedding favor if you choose to!)
1 microwave safe measuring cup or bowl
Paper (scrap booking, handmade, or even brown paper bags)
1lb blocks heat and pour soap is available at craft supply stores in glycerin or coconut base. It is a simple product to work with a very affordable.
Essential Oil, which is optional, is also available at almost any craft or art supplier store. You can buy great smelling essential oils for almost any smell you want. You can even mix and match varieties for a new smell.
Essential oils are great if you want to add a tropical fragrance to the soap like coconut, vanilla, melon, eucalyptus, or even cinnamon.
Now, the first step is to roll out clay on a piece of wax paper. You want to set the rectangle or oval cookie cutter in the clay but do not cut all the way through.
Now, Cut your one-pound soap block into 1″ squares. Next, place it into a microwave safe cup. You want to melt it for 15 seconds on high. If soap is not completely melted microwave in 5-second increments until fully melted. It is important to not overheat your soap block material.
Now, Allow soap to sit for a minute until a skin forms on top. Next you should push away the skin mix in a few drops of fragrance oil if you want to.
Now for the fun, pour soap into the Wedding Favor hand soap shaped cookie cutter mold in the clay. You can use air drying clay or regular old clay, it does not matter. You might be able to use leftover play dough if the kids have any. You are basically trying to create a shape that the candle soap material can dry in and don’t leak out of.
The Wedding Favor hand soaps will need to sit for at least 2 hours to dry and cure. I recommend letting them sit for at least 3 to 5 hours if you have the time.
Tip: Before removing the cookie cutter put into the freezer for 10 minutes to make removing the cookie cutter easier.
You need to Remove the clay from around the oval or rectangle cookie cutter and press the soap out from the cookie cutter mold.
Slice the clay off with a knife. You can also use a paring knife to trim any rough edges.
While the melted soap is still liquid you can add fun ingredients. Flower petals and rose petals are great additions. Try adding flower petals that match your wedding theme!
You can package your Wedding Favor hand soaps in individual small white or silver gift boxes. I find them all the time at arts and crafts store and even the Container Store. Lay some shredded colorful paper into the bottom of the gift box. Fill it with a handmade Wedding Favor hand soaps.
You can Tie it shut with a beautiful ribbon that matches your wedding colors and you have a wonderful handmade wedding favor gift.
You can also create custom labels for your handmade wedding favor hand soaps. Simply cut out a strip of your handmade paper, scrapbook paper or even a brown paper bag. Make sure the label is about 1/3 as wide as you hand soap wedding favor. It should also be able to wrap around it.
