For this Wedding China Stationary project you will need:
Heavy grade watercolor paper or pre made water color note cards
Watercolor paint or acrylic paint
Stencil Paint Brushes
Sharp Scissor or Exacto Knife
Your china pattern
This is an easy Wedding China Stationary project if you break it down into a number of different steps and don’t let them overwhelm you.
The first step is to break out your Wedding China. Look at dishes as well as photos of them for inspiration. Look for different shapes and pattern sizes on the plates. You can choose any pattern on your wedding china that you want. Use portions or the whole thing.
You can trace your wedding china pattern on some tracing paper or even have them photocopied at Kinko’s.
Once you have found a variety of Wedding China images you will want to lay them out on a flat surface.
Now you are ready to cut your chosen Wedding China patterns out on your stencil. Trace them lightly with marker and then cut them out. For super sharp edges onto your Wedding China Stationary I highly recommend using a very sharp exacto knife. You may need to change the blade if you are doing a lot of stationary.
If you are working with multiple colors you will want to cut out one stencil per color.
Lay your sheet of acetate on top and trace them and cut them out. You want to cut out the white areas and leave the colored areas in.
You can make a variety of different Wedding China Stationeries or stick with one pattern.
Once your Wedding China Stationary shapes are cut out you are ready to start painting. I like to take a paper plate and lay out a palette of paint colors that match my china from my watercolor paints. Do not add water.
Specifically I like to use as close a color as possible to match the china. You can use any color you want though. Before I paint my Wedding China stationary stencil cutouts I always practice a little on a piece of scrap watercolor paper.
This way I don’t waste a lot of my water color cards trying to get the look I want.
Now, gently start brushing it along the edges of your Wedding China stencil on the Stationary. Use the stencil brush.
Slowly work your way in to the middle of the Wedding China stencil.
Remove the stencil and let this dry.
Now, apply your second stencil if you have more than one color.
There are special water color mediums you can buy at any art supply or craft supply store that are meant to be added to water color paints to create different effects. Some mediums add a sand like texture or even a granite type texture. You can also find shimmering effects and others that just keep the paint wet longer allowing you to really work it.
You could add some of these mediums to your paint, but no water.
Allow your Wedding China Stationary to dry thoroughly and you are finished making your hand made wedding thank you notes.
