The subject of much media attention, Dannielynn’s ultimate custody arrangement is still unknown. Now six months old, the tiny girl has lost her mother, and custody of her is being sought by three different individuals. What will become of Dannielynn?
According to an article published one week ago, Dannielynn’s caregiver, Gerlene Gibson, states that Dannielynn is doing fine. Gibson has reportedly been Dannielynn’s full time caregiver since the baby was six weeks old. For those who have wondered since Smith’s untimely death in February, what will happen to the baby, it is comforting to know that she is with a familiar face who has been caring for her all along.
As most are aware, Dannielynn is at the center of a major custody battle between Howard K. Stern, Larry Birkhead, and Virgie Arthur. Let’s review, shall we?
Howard K. Stern, the attorney and supposed boyfriend-lover-committed party, was present at both Smiths’ mysterious death, as well as the mysterious death of her son, Daniel, in September of 2006. For those of us who watched the courtroom circus in Florida via our television sets, we heard Stern admit that he has basically been sponging off of Smith for years and years. I can’t speak for everyone, but the overall appearance is that this individual has been keeping Smith heavily drugged as much as possible over the years, and manipulating her financial and other legal decisions. And that’s not even mentioning the fact that many will be genuinely surprised if it turns out he actually didn’t play a part in her death, and the death of her son. It is my sincere hope that any judge who ends up with any kind of control in this custody decision will rule this guy out immediately. Let’s face it, he videotaped himself joking and laughing at Anna Nicole Smith while she stood heavily drugged in her home, and eight months pregnant! Is this an individual with any kind of sincere concern for this child? Clearly, no. I don’t know about all of you, but I can’t help but wonder, if left in Howard Stern’s care, would Dannielynn be in danger of suffering the same fate of her Mother and brother? And if he isn’t her biological father, and it’s this nanny who has been caring for the child since the age of six weeks, not Stern, then he shouldn’t be able to even have a say in the matter. He needs to hand this baby over to her real Daddy, get off his ass, get a job, and get the hell out of the picture.
Virgie Arthur, Anna Nicole Smith’s biological mother. Irregardless of the reported estrangement between Arthur and her daughter, any way you look at it, this woman does not appear to be anyone who should be left in charge of a child. She is not exactly a spring chicken, and with her obvious obesity, you can bet she suffers from a myriad of related conditions…perhaps diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, etc. How long can she realistically be expected to be around, I mean honestly? And even if she lives another 30 years, she’s not exactly going to be walking Dannielynn to school, playing with her at the park, or promoting an active lifestyle. It sounds cruel, but these things matter. Not to mention the fact that Dannielynn doesn’t even know the woman. Further, Arthur’s own daughter ran away at a young age, and seemingly had nothing but very negative things to say about her to the end. How would she feel knowing her precious child had been handed over to the very woman she spent so much of her own life avoiding? Sadly, it does appear more than obvious that this woman is just after the money, too.
Finally, Larry Birkhead. If he’s the biological father and has never committed any kind of crime or abuse against a child, then there should be no question that he should have custody of his own daughter. Money aside, personal feelings aside, parents have a right to their children, and vice versa. Unless there’s a grounded, legitimate safety concern for Dannielynn while in his care, then he shouldn’t be having to ask for his daughter at all, let alone fight for her. Children should be with their biological parents whenever possible, provided the biological parents are safe for the child to be with. If Larry Birkhead is a decent guy, and is the biological father, then I can’t imagine how painful this must be for him, being forcibly kept from his daughter. Does it matter that he would be in control of Dannielynn’s money? Sure, it matters. But considering little Dannielynn’s prospects, Larry Birkhead appears to be the only one who has her best interest at heart.
We’ll just have to wait and see what happens. Unfortunately, my own observations of the family court system lead me to the conclusion that more often than not, the sincere best interest of the child is rarely taken into consideration. Hopefully, it will be different for Dannielynn. Here’s hoping that she is placed in the safest, most caring and nurturing environment possible, and goes on from here to lead a very stable and happy life. Good luck to you, Dannielynn.
