For less than $500,000 in Queens New York, you do get a good choice of neighborhoods, both on the North and South shores as well as the Eastern part of the borough, near Nassau County. There is a choice of styles, but the houses are all on the small side and there is nothing over two bedrooms. If there were, it would likely be a handyman special, a fixer upper. Lets take a look at the neighborhoods and then what they have to offer. If you want to get an up close and personal look at a neighborhood, take some time to just go and drive around, get the feel of the atmosphere and see if it fits your idea of the perfect place to live.

Springfield Gardens
Springfield Gardens is in the south eastern part of Queens, New York and is near the Belt Parkway. No subway service out here, but there are many bus routes that connect with the Long Island Rail Road or the subway system.
You can get a small two bedroom attached house for about $350,000.

South Ozone Park
South Ozone Park is a very conveniently located Queens neighborhood in the south west part of the county. It is near the Belt Parkway and a short 5 minute bus ride to the J and A trains.
In South Ozone Park, a two-bedroom brick attached hose will start at about $350,000 as will a two-bedroom semi attached frame house with a party drive.

Hollis
Hollis is in the center of Queens, just east of Jamaica. No subways, but the Long Island Rail Road is here as well as many bus lines, both local and express. The main roads are Jamaica Avenue and Francis Lewis Boulevard.

Queens Village

Howard Beach is another one of the Queen’s neighborhoods that is convenient top transportation. It is located right on Cross Bay Boulevard, near the belt parkway and a short bus ride on Cross Bay to the J and A trains.

Broad Chanel
Broad Chanel is a small community just south of Howard Beach and right by the bridge to the Rockaway Peninsula. It is a waterfront community, with many houses right on the shore. It also has some great seafood restaurants.

Jamaica
Jamaica is one of the largest areas in Queens, with one of the major shopping areas along Jamaica Avenue. There is great bus service, with many of the lines not only from the city but Nassau a well, numerous subway lines and one of the main stations fo the Long Island Rail Road.

Far Rockaway
Far Rockaway is way out on the east end of the Rockaway Peninsula, at the end of the line for the A train.

New Hyde Park
New Hyde Park is one of the eastern most communities in Queens. The main road is Hillside Avenue there are express busses to Manhattan.
A two bedroom detached house will start at about $440,000

Bellrose
Bellrose is just a bit closer in than New Hyde Park, right near the Cross Island Parkway.

Whitestone
Whitestone is on the North Shore of Queens, right on the water. The Cross Island Parkway is here as well as Francis Lewis Boulevard.

College Point
College Point is right near the Long Island Expressway and a short drive to Shea Stadium, home of the New York Mets.
A small two bedroom bungalow will go for about $460,000.

Fresh Meadows
Fresh Meadows is right near Flushing. Union Turnpike is the main street and there are express busses into Manhattan.
A small brick attached house will start at about $470,000.
