There are many people that will spend hours trying to find obscure horror movies on DVD. These horror fans will spend countless dollars trying to find one or two movies that very few have ever heard. There are easier ways to find these movies as long as you know where to look.
I recently looked around the Internet to find a copy of the movie, “The Haunted Castle,” on DVD. This movie is one of my favorite Vincent Price movies, but is not one of his most famous works.
I stumbled across Amazon and found that they sold a copy of, “The Haunted Castle,” on DVD. While I was very interested, I decided not to purchase it there because of the price. I decided to try my luck, and search at Best Buy.
I found that Best Buy did carry the DVD, and they sold it for a lot less then Amazon. I then realized that I had forgotten about one of the best ways to find obscure horror movies.
Many companies offer multiple horror films on one DVD or in a special box set. Many people pass over these collections because of the fact that they usually appear in the reduced-price section.
Many of these horror movies are gems that time has forgotten. Many of the early movies of later movie stars can be found in these box sets. Many movies that fell off the radar because of the fact that they were independently made can be found for a low price.
Many of the movies that you may find in box sets will be listed very high on cult movie lists such as, “Nosferatu,” “Night of the Living Dead,” or “The Raven.” Many of these movies may have inspired references from popular culture like, “White Zombie,” or “Cult of Personality.”
There is one box set that I found that contained fifty cult horror films from the 1920’s to the 1970s. I was able to pick up this set for $15, and includes over 70 hours of movies.
There is another set that I have that contained twenty foreign horror films that have been translated into English. This set is treasured because of the fact that it contains many artsy horror films that I had never heard of before.
These hidden gem horror movies that you can buy in box sets for as low as $5 for ten movies will grant you hours of enjoyment. You will be the envy of many other horror fans when you can make references to movies that they have yet to see.
So next time you want a certain obscure horror movie on DVD, don’t drop tons of money by buying it online. Travel to a local store to see if it is on the clearance rack, or the reduced-rate rack.
