You need to first clean your terra cotta pots with bleach and water; just let them dry before you paint! This will remove dirt and debris that will keep your exterior house paint from sticking to the terra cotta.

You may want to clean your terra cotta flower pots a few days before you apply this fun French country paint look to make sure no water is trapped in the terra cotta.

Now, you are ready to put a coat of oil based primer.

Whether you are using a Terra Cotta Flower Pots or plastic flower pots this is a very important step. Your paint will not stick to your surface if you don’t prime your Flower Pots.

Allow your oil based primer to dry completely.

Put on a coat of your base paint, this should be a warm color like green or blue.

Let this dry for at least 24 hours.

Now you are ready to paint add a harlequin diamond pattern to your flower pots.

Take your blue painter’s tape and start taping off diamonds on the flower pots. Press the blue tap securely down to keep paint form leaking under it.

Now, take you pain brush and dip it into an accent color paint. This could be yellow or even white.

Dab the paint on the flower pot gently covering every other diamond.

Now, you need to let the diamonds on the flower pot dry for another 24 hours.

Now, take your fleur de le stamp and dip it in a third accent color. Lightly press it into every other diamond on the flowerpot.

You could even use a fourth accent color and stamp every remaining diamond on the French country inspired flower pot with another fleur de le.

You can do this stamping process until you achieve the antique look you want for your French Country Flower pots.

Now, let the stamped fleur de les dry for about 24 hours. You will need to apply about 3 to 4 coats of an oil based polyurethane to your flower pots. This will protect your French Country stamped designs for years to come!!

Fill your French country inspired flower pots with lots of red and white geraniums. This bright and colorful French country look can easily transform any dull and outdated patio into a warm and inviting outdoor room!
