Dreams from My father by Barack Obama, is a great illustration of the man’s life experience and choices that made him what he is right now. In this book author opens to reader the world that he was living in and describes people who influenced his life from the moment he was born. Obama divided the book on several parts that contain different period of his biography, beginning with the place where he was born and the family he was raised in, continuing with experiences he had, ideas he fought for, and goals he accomplished.
One of the most important people, who guided Obama, was his mother. Following the book, we can see the evolution of their relationships. They’ve been through misunderstanding when Barack, being a small child, didn’t notice the care and support that his mother was giving. For example, he paid more attention to what Lolo was explaining him about the way the life was arrange.
But when Obama become more mature he was able to realize that what Lolo was stating as a fact was defined by obstacles he had gone through. Knowing that, make author reconsider the way his mother was raising him. In fact, she was the only one, who always protected and supporting him, giving him the silent lessons, sometimes even sacrificing her own feelings and believes. In my opinion, Osama’s mother was a better teacher for him that his father. Furthermore, I think all the goals he was aiming for and all dreams that, eventually, became true were motivated and guided by his mother.
Everything that author put in this book is sacred and personal. That was the main reason for my choice. The title of the biography, from the very beginning, made me think about my family, the dreams that I’ve adopted from my parents, and how it affected my present life. Moreover, I have a strong believe that the actual purpose of the Osama’s book was the idea of the man’s unity with his family and how important it is for a person to learn from his parents, and find own way and life knowledge, without rejecting our siblings help and care.
I loved the book. It impressed me with detailed life description and author’s ability to inspire the reader simply by telling the story of his life. I’ve already recommended the Dreams from My Father to my friends as an interesting and curious book that made me reevaluate my background and realize the important lessons that my parents tough me. Although I didn’t have a chance to finish the whole book by now, it’s in a first place in my reading list.
